For the longest time, I have been doubting my salvation...this started a while back st my church, we were having a concert, and thid guy was giving a testamony about his Salvation. He was the choir director, and he said that he felt that he was not saved. He ask God to give him a sign, by his wife walking up to the alter after church. If his wife did that then he was not saved. Well, it happen, his wife went up front, he gave his life to Christ. Now, he said make sure you are saved, because you might think you are saved, but you are not. I started to get scared, and I ask myself, Am I saved? I remember that when I was in middle school I gave my life to the Lord, and I was crying, and I was very emtional. But, now as I heard this guy's testamony, I ask myself that question. I have been depress about this subject. This guy was so into church, but yet he claim he was not saved, he was a choir director! But lately through my doubts , can someone give me advice?
Thanks...

I don't know if I would tust that example. I don't remember seeing in the Bible for God to give a sign for this. I am not going to say it isn't true. It is normal for younger Christians to doubt their salvation. You know in your heart. Unless you asked God to take it back, you are saved...that is unless you didn't mean it in the first place. If in doubt, just pray to God, and tell Him how you feel. You can pray the prayer of salvation. If you are saved, it will be a prayer of re-dedication. Just ask Jesus to come into your heart again, fresh and anew.

Jesus said, "Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord' will enter the Kingdom of Heaven, but only those who do the Will of my Father in Heaven".
Someone can be a member of a church or in the choir or whatever, but then go home and act no differently from your average atheist.
To find out whether you are saved, have you done these things?
1. Ask the Lord to come into your heart, forgive your sins (you should confess your sins to Him), and make you a new person.
2. Get baptized.
3. Start going to Bible studies with others who are saved.
4. Start learning what kind of behavior God expects of you, and OBEY Him.
5. Even if you do not obey Him 100% of the time, ask Him to forgive those sins, and He will be faithful and just to forgive you.
6. Trust in the promises of God.

Go back to the time you asked Christ into your Heart. Were you sensere? Just as "Christian Poet" stated this is the very tool that satan uses to trip up Gods people. If you were sensere about your middle school conversion. Then that should be it....And if you are not for sure then get on your knees right now and ask Christ to be Lord and Savior over your life and demand (by the blood of Jesus) satan to be gone from your life...it is that easy! Just do it! And from this day forth you know that you know that you are saved..
God Bless

I truly believe that when you ask God into your heart as your Lord and Savior you'll always be saved. The ONLY way to lose that salvation is if you ever deny the Lord's existence.
"But whoever disowns me before men, I will disown him before my Father in heaven."
~Matthew 10:33 (New International Version)~
It's normal to have doubts, but you didn't say if those doubts were about Him working in your life or in regards to His existence. From what you've said it doesn't appear to be the latter, therefore, I wouldn't worry that you're not saved. It sounds like you are to me. God Bless!

I'm having a problem with your choir leader. Salvation is not determined by someone else walking up to the alter to know if you are saved or not. Salvation is not a feeling. It is truth and it is through God's promise to you. God came to the earth as the man Jesus for the purpose of sacrificial death for your sins.
Acceptance of Jesus as your Lord and your Savior is what God requires for the forgiveness of your sins and your sin nature. Sometimes people just know about Jesus. They do not accept His Lordship into their lives or the personal relationship that He wants to give us.
Many times Satan wants to convince us that we are not good enough to have this gift from Jesus with his lies of twisting the truth. We are not good enough but, Jesus is.
When you have accepted Jesus as your personal Lord and Savior, and Satan comes to you with this accusation, speak to him and tell him that if he has a problem with your salvation, speak to Jesus about it. He hates this and will stop torturing you.
Now pray and read your Bible. Know that Jesus loves you and you belong to Him and check out a different place of worship where they preach that what Jesus did saves you not relying on a sign.

I don't know why your choir director did that or his wife...Pray about this to the Lord Jesus Christ about how you are feeling and your church.I would talk to your pastor about all of this and other Christians.Read your Bible about doubt and do not put your faith in nothing, but Jesus! I would pray to the Lord if this is the church that He wants you to worship him.

This is the whole problem with modern Christianity. There are so many definitions of what it means to be saved that people get confused. Some believe that once you make a public profession of faith that you are "always saved." Some say that you can "backslide" and become unsaved, other say that if you backslide, you were never actually saved in the first place.
Let me simply quote from James Chapter 2:
17: Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.
18: Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works.
19: Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble.
20: But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?
21: Was not Abraham our father justified by works, when he had offered Isaac his son upon the altar?
22: Seest thou how faith wrought with his works, and by works was faith made perfect?
23: And the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God.
24: Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only.
25: Likewise also was not Rahab the harlot justified by works, when she had received the messengers, and had sent them out another way?
26: For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.
In other words, if you live like you are saved, then you are saved.

I think poet is right.
I want to warn you though, that guy's method of getting an answer from God is horrible.
God DOES NOT work like that.
In the Bible, we read the very words of God. Believe Him.
This is the faithful trusting.
Best way? Examine yourself, and be thorough. Is your life bearing fruit?
Do not seek a sign. We are called to believe.

All my life I have found is sad and touching that protestants, esp. fundamentalists waste so much energy on this question.
Here's a Roman Catholic's perspective: Jesus Christ died to save me. It is not my business to go around saying that I am either saved or not saved. My business in the Spirit of God is to do my best to listen to what God is telling me in my heart, to follow Jesus as best I can, and to continue to seek the guidance of the Holy Spirit. If I do that, I will find myself in the Kingdom of God on the last day.
"Saved" and "not saved" is for God alone to decided. Our business is to ask God's guidence in our lives the have faith in His saving grace.

Having faith in Christ is different from having the faith of Christ.
Revelation 14:12 Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.
So my advice is you must not only believe on Christ but to follow his footsteps.
1Corinthians 11:1 Be ye followers of me, even as I also am of Christ.
