Why do people turn to God during hard times?

Is it for the same reason people apologize to the judge before they are sent to the slammer, sorry to get caught?

e.g. Paris Hilton started reading the Bible only during prison.

Apparently when they are put into their cells the only reading material in the cell is a Bible. While the reading material they have brought with them is being gone through for approval, the Bible in their cell is all they have available to read until then.

Also, the first person to visit them is a Clergy person. At the same time while visitation of family and friends is limited to certain days and times, visitation of clergy is any time as long as needed. Also, there can be "special" priviledges given because of religious beliefs.

Because they are religious beliefs, they can not be turned down. If the persons head must be covered for religious reasons, then so must it be in prison. If a serenity path must be had for religious reasons in the outside world, then so must they have access in prison. If a sweat lodge is needed, then it must be given in prison as well.

Because it is a religious need, they can not be turned down in prison as their religious rights and freedom need to be observed and protected in the United States being if they are in prison or not.

God is real and u cant say that they only turn to God during hard times. U dont know if Paris Hilton is a Christian or not. Maybe she just made it public when she was in jail! I think u have no right to talk about God in a mean way! good bye!

For most it seems when all is well they forgot all about religion and God. But in desperate times they all of a sudden find God and religion. I don't know why people do it. Just goes goes to show who is true and who is not. Honestly, can someone say they are truly religious if they all of a sudden start thinking about when they are in desperate times? I don't know about now, but has Paris been seen with a bible since her pre-jail time?

Most prisons have the Bible readily available. Is that separation of Church and state?

Now get this, you can't bring a book or a crossword puzzle into the waiting area to read while waiting to visit a prisoner, but guess what? They have Bibles for you to read in there and that is ok! lol....actually it sickens me, but...what can I do?

Most of these controllers don't know what to do and could not tell you what was in that Bible. Maybe they are waiting for people to read it and dispute it?

Well when you go to prison...what else are you gonna do for 23 hours a day?

Anyway, people don't go to God saying "sorry I got caught" because He is always watching, always knowing...we go to him when we sin for forgiveness...but as in hard times like not having money or food, losing your house or job or something...we need someone to lean on.

I know I would be more willing to go to God for help than telling people how I screwed up my finances and lost my house and car....
