Because to die as the Bible foretold, He had to die on the mountain where God told Abraham to offer up Issac. This is the place where Abraham said God would provide a sacrifice.

The Romans didn't care about what he was doing. In fact I read somewhere that they actually encouraged it (silently). See, he wasn't starting a rebellion like many of the other so called messiahs. He was preaching peace and told the soldiers to be content with their wages. That was cool to the Romans. Pilate did all (well not all) he could to dissuade the picky priests from thinking he was guilty. He was innocent to the Romans. Also, the Romans had plenty of other Germans, Jews, Africans, and others to entertain them in the arena. Mainly, he wasn't a problem. Hope that helped.

IF he actually existed . . .

Why?

He was not really much of a problem for the Romans, it was the Hebrew priests who were getting bent out of shape - (at least according to Paul, but then think about who was he preaching to.)

But messiahs and rabble raisers were a dime a dozen in Judea at that time. It was a local problem to be dealt with locally. Why should they have treated a particular one any different from all the others?
