I work at a pet store, as a groomers assistant and as an advisor at the front desk. For the bad breath- you can buy liquids that are added to your dogs drinking water. They reduce plaque (which, considering your dogs age, is the likely cause and bad breath) and just improves overall mouth health and breath. Our most popular brand is "Suzie's Tartar Liquid". we sell at least one bottle a day, and customers are constantly raving about it.
I recently started using it on my own dog.... she was sprayed in the mouth by a skunk. I didnt think anything could improve that awful smell, but this stuff will do the trick. Heres the link for an image: http://www.uniquedistributors.com/suzies.html
as for his rear end... my first thought would have been his anals. how do you know that they're okay? when was the last time they were expressed by your vet? they may be naturally expressing themselves... as in... leaking. i would reccommend going to your vet for that one. its a sensitive area that you dont want to mess with.... but maybe feeding your dog a good food would improve digestion and solve the problem? may i reccomend Precise Plus (what i feed my dog), or Wellness (which is a top brand and made with human grade ingredients)
Good luck!

What are you feeding him? Dogs smell less when fed a premium quality dogfood.
Have you had him to the vet for a check up?
Dogs shouldn't smell bad unless there is something systemic going on... poor nutrition leading to poor health, poor dental hygiene (which would not explain the rear end issue) or some other health issue. Covering the smell with breath deodorants doesn't take care of the source of the issue... its rather like giving someone a breath mint when they smell bad because they are ill.

I definitely think it's his diet. Yes, dental hygiene is important, but often the smell is coming from the stomach/digestive tract. So, no amount of breath freshener will help. And naturally, it will work its way through the system as expected to stink on its way out in the form of gas etc... Go see a vet to ask about it. This is a common problem. Meantime, don't feed him table scraps. If he eats wet food, change to dry (you have to slowly change his diet day by day though to allow him to adjust.) And sure, give him a good bath and scrub while your at it, it can't hurt to keep his exterior smelling good. Oh and, temporary breath fixes like "Dentabones" may only increase the stomach irritation so stay away from this doggy junkfood.

I had the same problem with my dog (but not the breath) and was to the point that I was bathing her 2 X's a week. One vet told me that she has allergies and put her on lamb and rice food, which is to help their skin and coat. I finally found a vet who put her on some really strong antibiotics because it turned out she had a skin infection. The smell had gotten so bad on her that we couldn't even pinpoint where it was coming from, but it would transfer from her onto whatever she laid on...it was awful. I would maybe see if your dog has some type of infection. I had to take my dog to 3 different vets before I finally found one that fixed the problem!!

You probably need to get his teeth cleaned. Possibly change his diet. He might have a mildly upset stomach, which may be causing the yucky butt.
Be sure to keep up with a lot of dog tooth friendly stuff for him to chew on as well. Good oral health directly links to their over all health.

What does he eat?
If you look at his teeth and gums and they are all brown, he may need a teeth cleaning.
I had a Dalmatian who farted something terrible, and she was an indoor dog who ate dry dog food.
You should ask your veterinarian if there's anything he can suggest.
