She's all bubbly acting with her little rountund figure, pheasant style dresses, round glasses, funny hats, love of wine coolers, collections of strange gizmos and her intense knowledge of American history.

So, would it be a mistake or a real laugh riot if I told her next time over dinner at her place that she bears a remarkable likeness to legendary American Ben Franklin?

It might be better to say she looks like the sister of Ben Franklin. And add that she looks very intelligent. That would help.

I wouldn't do it. If a remark even MIGHT hurt somebody's feelings, it's discourteous to make it. "A real laugh"-- even if she laughs loudest of all-- based on the way somebody looks is dangerous territory. If she looks that much like Ben Franklin, don't you think she already knows it? (Ben Franklin was quite a handsome youth, but on the rugged masculine side, in his twenties, so he never was exactly an example of feminine beauty.)

It wouldn't be insulting as long as you made sure to avoid telling her she outright looks like him. No matter how eccentric the woman, no woman wants to hear that they look like a bald, fat, old guy. Other than that with the gadgets and history and all that you can let her know that her mannerisms remind you of Ben Franklin. That might be a bit more flattering.

Woah watch ya mouth boy :P
else you're gonna make them feel insulted.
Hell halt no women in fury heard of that?

You're in a new environment & relationship.
Hehehe..becareful of what you say, coz. u know who prepares your dinner & who you're in love with at the moment :)

Unless, it's after some time of knowing them & they are great jokers who can take it then it's ok to tell.

Btw. I've a female friend that physically looks like Mr.BEAN!
Not only the face, but the shoulders & way she walks!
& you know what's funnier?
Her dad's the head director for a mental asylum hospital!
Both of them are very intelligent; but it's just so hard not to laugh by the way they talk & walk & her face.. XD.
I once, accidently said she looks like Mr.Bean.. although many ppl laughed & agreed, but they said I'm mean for saying that.

She's a doctor now, I hope...I don't even up in her surgery room.

First, if you are not planning to date GF anytime after that moment, ask...but pick a day when she's had an extreme love of the wine coolers;p! I think that I would keep it to myself. I had a guy pick on my mom, my MOMS, and I really got angry, and dumped him. So remember, maybe keep it to yourself. Don't make fun of the family, anyone's unless they do, and then be careful. Treat others the way you want to be treated!

That would be rude. Instead you could say that being around her makes you proud to be an American. But leave it at that. No woman would be pleased with being told she looks like an old man... not even Barbara Bush, who some say looks like George Washington or the Quaker Oatmeal guy.

It would be wrong, because no woman wants to hear that they look like Ben Franklin. Do you want to keep your girlfriend? Then don't insult the mother.

I think that if you didn't want to be liked by your new girlfriends mom, then you go ahead and say that..otherwise, just keep thoughts that may hurt her feelings to yourself. I think that a lot of people say things that think they'll be perceived as a compliment, but really, they're quite offensive. If I were you,I'd just avoid any problems you would cause by saying this to her!
