I was involved in unfortunate fatality accident last week. I have posted questions regarding other issues surrounding this if you would like to read them. The other person's insurance company has accepted 100% liability & the police report was ready last Thursday showing the excessive speeds of the other driver. When I talked with the insurance company last week , they gave me a rental car for 70 days & asked me if my vehicle was released from the wrecker service. She said I needed to find out if it was & get my personal belongings out so they can have it towed to their salvage yard because it was totalled. The wrecker service told me that the insurance company would have to release it but the insurance company said the police would have to. I have called back several times & today the wrecker service told me to call the officer that made the report. I left him a message but in the mean time, has this every happened to anyone and why is it taking so long to have it released? Thanks

Everyone is a little bit correct. The police have to release it indicating that they are done processing the vehicle as evidence. Then the insurance company has to release it so you can get your items.

I assume that it is different based on the fact that there was a fatality. They need to be sure that the police have completed their investigation before you take the car to be destroyed.

Since it was only last week, I would give it a little more time. The wheels of justice sometimes turn slow. Keep in mind that the police officer (who can probably answer all your questions) may not be on duty right now, or may be busy, or may even be on vacation.
