My nephew started to learn well when he was around two, then his little brother came along and suddenly he didn't wanna grow up so fast. Hence, he put off using the potty for another year lol. That was a tough year for my brother and his wife (2 babies in diapers!!)

Sorry but 7 or 8 months old is ridiculous to start this. All EC does is train the parent to a schedule that their child has to go it's not training the child at all. Nonsense! My son took an interest in the potty at about 13 months old and I got him a potty chair. He sometimes asks to use it and will go on it if he needs to and is there, but he's only 17 months old now. I'm not pushing it. I figure he'll get there and be confident on his own. I do think waiting until 4 though is a bit ridiculous since preschools like kids to be potty trained BEFORE they go to school. Most children I know are usually trained starting around a year and before 3.

My son was 3 and a half. I tried since he was 2, but he never really got the hang of it until he went to daycare. Within a month of going to daycare, he was completely potty trained. He saw all the other kids doing it and realized that he was supposed to use the potty as well. He still wears pull-ups at night, but uses the toilet during the middle of the night. Every child is different. Just keep at it with him. Be patient and eventually he'll get it. Best of luck to you.

My son was almost 3 b4 he showed an interest at all. My daughter is 19mons and doesn't seem to understand or want to yet. It just depends on the child. You'll know when he's ready. Don't push him but try encouraging it. Read potty books to him, let him pick out some big boy undies, maybe even get a couple potty movies. He could watch em while sitting on the potty?? And if he ever goes in the potty or even tells you hes gotta go, praise him :) Good Luck :)

My older son took longer because we had a bad car accident when he was 2, that set him back completely to square 1 on potty training. He was around 3 by the time he got completely potty trained.
The younger one was about 2 1/2 when he was completely trained.

We started putting our son on the potty after meals when he turned 6 months. We rewarded him when he actually did something in it, and at 22 months we stopped buying diapers and bought him training pants (thick underwear). He hated feeling wet, so after 1 DAY of this, he started going in the potty! He would go into the bathroom, get the potty and bring it to where ever we were! Yay, Micah!

I am in the process with my youngest, who is 2 right now. On a scale of 1 to 10 10 being fully pottytrained and 1 being not even remotely, i'd say she is a 8 in the day and about a 4 in the night. With my biological daughter, i started when she was 2 and by 3.5, she was fully potty trained in the day and night. When I gained rights of my other kids, they were already potty trained, so I don't know about them.

Um, most parents should plant the idea in their kid's head around 20-22 months old.

After that, they should show signs of knowing when they have eliminated, like pointing to their diaper or taking it off.

Buy a potty, sit it in the living room. Take the diaper off and leave it off. You'll have some accidents but if you are diligent about it, you will have a potty trained three year old in no time.

Good Luck! :D

good question! iv'e been meaning to ask this as well. i suggest the answer'ers also say if their child is a boy or girl.

although i don't have an answer since my child is not born yet!

if anyone answer's 4 years old or older, i am shocked! that is the parents fault not the child's in my opinion, unless there is something else going on. a friend of mine has a 3 year old who she isn't even thinking of potty training yet because she had constipation problems and is terrified of going poop, so that is a little more acceptable then any other child who is developing normally

My son is 16 months old. I bought him a potty a few days ago~ just to introduce it to him. In my family, it is common to start potty training at an early age. Most of my neices & nephews were potty trained by the time they turned 2. I sure hope my son gets it at an early age..
