National service should be required of every American. That can include military service, Job Corps, Peace Corps, etc. This is common in the rest of the world, and should be practiced in the US. I would have served happily.
What the heck are "hereditary issues" that women might have but men don't?

Women fought for equal rights and I believe they should be given them. Should a draft be implimented then women should also be drafed on an equal basis with the men. The number of women drafted should be directly proportional to the number of women in our society. There should be no special consideration given for pregnancy or any other circumstances as this would provide an easy way for women to avoid service related to their sex (unless we gave men an exclusion for having a pregnant wife). We saw in the gulf war that married women were becoming pregnant by soldiers in the field to get transferred back stateside. I have personally served with several pregnant females who were quite able to do their duty right up to delivery time. So there should be no disqualifiers or exemptions made available to the women that are not equally available to the men. Equal rights means equal responsibility.

Women should have to register for the draft, but they should never be allowed anywhere near combat. They are a liability to all the men serving around them. If women want to be treated equally, they should have to pay equally. If we are to achieve true gender equality, then everyone, including women, must also have the same social responsibilities as men do. Men have shed our blood for generations for the freedom and protect of all, women included. It is about time they start sacrificing as well.

There should be no draft. If there is, it would be reasonable, under the 'equal protection' clause of the constitution, to register both men and women - though physical requirements to serve might well be set such that few men, but most women, would be classified as not physically capable of serving.

My view is that NO ONE should be drafted. But if they are, then women should be eligible just as much as men. They are allowed in the military now. They want to be treated equal. Perhaps if they are mothers they can get off, but otherwise the rules should apply the same to male and female. You want equality? You've got it. You can't have it both ways.

If men are being drafted, women should be drafted, too. You cannot have all the benefits of citizenship without the responsibilities, too. It is patently unfair for men to give up two years of their lives (and perhaps their lives themselves), while women have no responsibilities. It may have made sense at one time (when women couldn't vote, and their options in society were so limited), but it does not make sense today.
That being said, I don't think women should have to be in combat units. There are thousands of support positions behind the lines to support front line soldiers. There should also be the option of spending two years (or whatever the draft period would be) working in public service--perhaps two years working with underprivileged children, or fighting fires, etc.
If a woman already has children, she should be exempt. And if women get pregnant while in service? They should get a period of maternity leave, and then have daycare provided by other women (and men) who have been drafted.

this is why there will never be a draft again because of the women, as far as i know the only place a female can't serve in the navy is on submarines, i don't think you will ever see a draft again

They should draft women as well as men. Maybe the guys will get some decent cooking for a change. Actually they should have separate and distinct combat units for men and women. I want to know who is more effective on assignment men or women!

As long as they don't intend to be eligible to be Commander and Chief of the military or expect men to take 'equality' seriously of course not, they just get in the way in practice and become hostages. If you do take equality seriously I'm afraid there is no way out; certainly no woman who was never eligible to be drafted should ever be in charge of an under class of men who are.

Do other countries draft women? I wonder. Well, I would say no to drafting women. The draft is mainly a way to get "cannon fodder" That is getting alot of bodies to send to the front lines to die. Women in the front lines does not work. Forget equal rights or women's lib, 99% of women and a few men would not be able to handle it anyway. So, draft only men. Besides, the women would get raped or made slaves if captured, Psychologically, this would be very devastating. Another issue is pregnancy. You want some woman drafted then find out she is pregnant? You want her raped and pregnant by the enemy? You want women home and safe, perhaps having babies to replace those men who will be killed.
