Anti-Islamic sentiment in the US: possible Christian political agenda?

Question

Islam claims to be a religion of peace, and I do believe many Muslims do practice that. It also seems pretty obvious that the US government is making the religion itself out to be much worse than it really is. All personal views aside, the war in Iraq needs a scapegoat.

Could it be that the Christian majority, and those they've put into office, see Islam as a possible threat in the future? Obviously some of the propaganda was to bolster support for the war in Iraq, but could the agenda be two-fold?

What happens if Christianity loses the majority in the US?

Let's not forget, news reporting and statistics are easily manipulated.

first of all Islam does not claim to be religion of peace because the meaning of the word Islam is from peace and even the way Muslim say hello is peace on you but if you see or hear something about a moslem doing a bad thing don't look at him as a moslem look at him as a human without butting any lines about what religion he is or where he came from because there is to many other people doing bad things from a different religion or different places so don't do that because will hate half of the world ,its the media you are believing when you set at home knowing nothing about the truth.

Many politcians, such as Bush and Cheney, are using the average Americans ignorance about other faiths and cultures as an opportunity to line their pockets.

The issue truly doesn't have everything to do with religion. Though religion is now dragged into with Evangelists such as Pat Robertson calling Islam evil and Muslims calling Christianity evil.

Yet if you look at the issues more closely you see, many Muslims fighting what they see as imperialism, pursecution and oppression. And what the average joe in the US sees as a real threat and only defending itself.

Who are making a "killing" from this, Bush with his interests in Oil Companies and the Carlyle Group (Defense) and Cheney with his interests lying in Haliburton.

This has never been about religion, it's been making money.

Cos the strongly evangilical and charismatic Christians in US see it as their responsibility to side with the Jews as they believe when Christ descends on earth for his 2nd coming, these Jews will become Christians, and thus necessary to protect the Jew's interests.

Since the Palestinians in particular and most Muslims in general are against the Zionist state of Israel, thus it makes Muslims and Islam the natural enemy of these evangelical charismatic Christians.

islam today is not a threat.. but there started an islamic awarness in the world, ... the US does not want to see islam rise to become a world super power as it once was... and thus you can see the massive media against it.. the tone of the media outlets. and the confusion about the religion which leads some people to taking extreme measures with no solid education...

people are not evil by nature... you have to have done something wrong for a person to hate you...

US claims that muslims hate american democracy and their way of life... how can anyone with half a mind beleive this stupidness.... the US is a falling young empire because it was build on lies, cheating, and opression of other nations..

i think that many people are afraid of what they don't know.. and its hard when you are waging a war against terror and those that have done terrorist things say they are Muslim or Islamist... how can you expect to not be prejudiced against. it isn't right, but its the way things are, people are afraid of what they don't know.. and there have been reports that Islamist nations and Muslim nations teaching thier children that America is evil..
there are bad people and extemists in every religion.. but whenever a foul thing is done its done on the basis of religion and its broadcast in the name of religion... fear of that religion is going to happen, and when people are afraid they do not do nice things and they discriminate.. it doesnt make it right, but it is what happens...
i do not think that a christian majority has some underlying agenda... but i think education and understanding are in order.. and perhaps that hasn't happend to keep the war going... you are correct there does need to be a scapegoat. and its sad that it needs to be our religous differences, this is what our country doesn't understand...

What anti-islamic sentiment? Saying unflattering things about islam? Trust me things are much worse than getting negative press for christians living in islamic countries i.e.:

Christians in Peshawar, Pakistan, received anonymous letters threatening suicide attacks if they do not convert to Islam, assemblyman Pervez Masih said Friday in Pakistan's Parliament. He said the hand-written letter entitled knock of death called for jihad against non-Muslims and America.

Masih, reading the contents of the letter, said, All of you are being invited to quit Christianity and become Muslim to save a place in the heaven. Otherwise, by the next Friday (August 10) your colony will be destroyed and you will be responsible for the loss of life and property. Be ready as it is not only a mere threat. Our suicide bombers will kill you. Consider it a final call, AsiaNews reported Monday.

According to Masih, the letters were sent to some members of the Christian community in the Kohati area, a neighborhood in the interior city, where some of their old places of worship are situated. On August 10 the members of the community held a meeting with Peshawar City Police Chief, informing him about their fears. The police increased patrols in the area.

It is not the first time Pakistan's Christians were threatened. On June 12 Christians in Shantinagar village in southern Punjab received anonymous letters written in Urdu telling them to convert to Islam or leave the area, or be ready to face the consequences. The same threat was made May 7 to Christians in Charsadda City. Ten days later Christians found the same message written on a wall near a church.

Muslims are forever claiming their religion is one of peace. The peaceful Shiites are slaughtering he peaceful Sunnis.Peaceful Fatah are slaughtering the peaceful Hamas. Peaceful mosques are being blown up by peaceful terrorists. Peaceful women and children are being blown up by peaceful murderers. Same for the peaceful school buses.
If Christianity looses the majority, it will become the minority.
