I am not Christian or atheist so I am unbiasted.
I have met many athiests who had much more closed minds than Christians. I think keeping an open mind and learning is important. If you seek out answers for yourself, no matter what conclusion you come to, you are not being brain washed. Pure and simple.

No-one who knows the truth about a subject maintains an "open mind" on that subject. Are atheists "open minded" about the possibility that humans were directly created and did not evolve? Of course not. Because they know, as do most Christians, that science has conclusively demonstrated the fact of biological evolution. So why would they expect people who know God and experience His work in their lives to be "open minded" about the possibility He doesn't exist?? They might as well try to convince me my wife doesn't exist. After all, they could present the same argument - they haven't personally experienced her, so therefore she cannot exist.

I'm atheist (notice, no capital "A") and I believe that SOME Christians, not all, don't have open minds. My whole family, which happen to be Christian, are very open minded.

I became a Christian, not an idiot.
Here's what I know . . . Christ was born, Christ died, Christ was resurrected. Christ will come again.
Nearly everything else is open to interpretation and discussion.
Atheists say, "there is no God," what does that leave open to interpretation and discussion?
In his letter to the Romans, Paul wrote, "be not conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. . . "
You have to keep an open mind if you want your mind renewed.
Godspeed.

It's not even the open minded-ness I can't deal with. It's the fact most atheist were of one religious group or another. Most have studied or learned the bible. We simply disagree with it. No you shouldn't feel guilty about thinking. If anyone thinks you're bad because of it. Don't sweat it.

It depends on what you call open-minded.
Example:
If you say you believe the Bible is true but also say homosexuality is "okay" then you are contradicting yourself. That's not how you would go about being open-minded.
If you want to accept homosexuals as people instead of mindlessly hating them but also don't agree that homosexuality is "okay", then that's how you can be open-minded and still be a Christian.
I believe every word of the Bible is true. But I don't hate homosexuals. I love them as people, but I don't have to agree that homsexuality is "okay" to do that.

Christians should measure all things against what they know to be true, per God's Word, and use that measure to determine if something is good/bad, right/wrong.

The bible says "lean not on your own understanding".
In other words, do not trust yourself to make the right decision unless this decision can be backed up by scripture.
I cannot think of a better example of brainwashing than requiring people to ignore their better judgment in exchange for teachings from a book.

I think most people are not as open minded as they think they are, but it is certainly not a christian only phenomena.
