Okay so I've had my cat for a few months, now, and I love him. He's so funny and cool. The thing is I can be away a lot for hours when I'm at work. If I happen to be at home, he wants to play, and I'm not always up for it. The thought of getting another cat has creeped into my head. However, I'm not really too keen on having to take care of two litter boxes, nor do I want to spend the money on taking care of two cats. Vets, food, etc, this stuff ads up. At the same time, I feel a little bad for my cat. Any advice?

Cats will use the same litter box! Also it depends on the cat. Have you tried getting him a perch to play on or toys? Try that out before investing in another pet. I've always had at least 2 cats because I know how they get lonely and they love the companionship. If you do decide to get another, let him pick out his friend because they don't always get along with any ol' cat you bring into their territory. You can have an on going war in your house over territory and may end up having an injured cat. I hope this helps you and good luck!

I just answered another question reccomending two cats especially if your gone for long periods of time. I have two cats and it's so much better than one cat they can play and chase each other all day long, just make sure if you have a male get a female or female if you have a male and make sure they're both neutered. It really is worth it and it's not that much more expensive. If you get a cat from a shelter they usually are fixed and there shots are up to date and they are clean and healthy. I would do it for your pet. My cats get along really well and when they were young they played with each other for hours, now that they're older it's funny because when the female is outside to long and I call her if she doesn't come, my male cat will go and find her and butt her all the way home it's really funny. they are happy and that makes me happy. Right now I'm fighting cancer and tired from the chemo and if I had one cat I'd feel so bad because I'm just so tired but with the two cats they keep each other company and when they are scared they stick together it's really cool

If you cant afford it, then that is that. But I have two cats (sisters from the same litter) and they just adore each other, they are always together and they keep each other company when we are away at work. the litter box is not that difficult, the food is not so bad, but the vet does add up. All in all, I am very very happy that I took two of them. I can go away for the weekend or even a week and they do fine bc they have each other

If he is an energetic cat, a playmate might be really good for him, however, take into consideration that the other cat may have some difficulty adjusting for a short period of time. He's established your place as his territory and might be a little cranky in the beginning if you introduce another cat in the mix.

If another cat is really not in the cards for you, keep the radio on low for him when you are not around. Leave a few treats in out of the way places that he will discover throughout the day like a window sill he likes to sit on or behind furniture. Leave some safe toys out for him to knock around while you're out. It will give him the scensory stimulation he needs and keep him from getting bored.

Most cats prefer to be on their own. If you do want two cats you should always adopt/buy then at the same time. If you have one cat already living there it will feel like it owns the place and if you bring another cat home it will not like it. I have a cat that I adopted from the pound. recently a stray was hanging around and i fed her too and now she stays here all the time. My cat always hisses at her. Also if you know you can't afford to keep two, it may be best to stick to one cat and maybe buy like a cat climbing toy to keep it busy. there are so many fun things for cats out there.

I just personally feel that it is better to have two cats if you are not around all day and they must be alone. And of course you must be prepared for the finances involved in caring for more than one. Dogs are more demanding of your personal time ( their exercise needs have to be met on a regular basis to have a healthy, well-adjusted dog).

You have an emotionaly rich life outside of your home and your cat has only you to meet his emotional needs for companionship and an interesting life so I think another cat companion will make him happier and more well-balanced.

You must also consider the fact that it will be easier to introduce a second cat NOW rather than later. Their adjustment to one another will go much smoother the sooner you do it.

If you get another cat you won't have to have 2 litter boxes they will share the same one. But I think cats do need companions, it can be very lonely being home by yourself all day. I have 7 cats and the vet bills do add up but most of them were strays and I just didn't have the heart not to take them in, or to take them to the shelter.

i only have one cat due to the cost too. Sometimes i feel a little bad for leaving my cat alone all day but i'd feel worse if i have 2 poorly cats and could not afford to take them to the vets and get them the treatment they deserve. try looking in pet shops for some good toys! i have a battery operated mouse that my cat george loves to play with! and all i have to do is re-direct it when it hits a wall!

"Cat Fancy" magazine recommends that you have two cats if you have a cat and are away often or for long periods of time. Despite the myth, cats are not loners. They do appreciate the company of their own kind. Some vets give a multi-pet discount, ask your vet if they have such a plan if you get another cat.

Cats are solitary by nature that's what makes them ideal pets for people like you because they sleep a lot and don't need company all the time like dogs. Another cat could actually cause problems. Your cat might see him/her as an intruder. Cat's like their own company just leave him enough food and water and he'll be fine.
