Our son's 2nd birthday is coming up and we're getting him a train/car table to play on, he LOVES trains, cars, etc. Is it ok on the bottom of the invites to put something along the lines of (child's name) loves trains, cars & dinosaurs! to give guests (most of which is family) ideas. They tend to ask anyway so I thought this might help?

I got quite the variety of answers..LOL We tried the registry thing before with my daughter a few years ago & only 1 person got something off it so we won't bother with that again. My son is SOO not picky so it's not really about him getting something he doesn't like but more just to give people ideas if they need them. That and we're getting him the table so it'd be great to have things to play on it with. His invites and entire theme are Tonka trucks so I'm sure people would get the idea from that..think I'll let them take the hint from there or get what they want. I just wish more people would give gift receipts or buy form places that aren't so strict about returns. We had a big problem with that my daughter's last b-day so we just donated them. Thanks for all the ideas!!

I sent my e-mail along with "any questions" and most people that responded wanted to know what the boys liked to play.. It worked out really well and we didn't have much to return.. Also, a gift receipt helps a lot when returning.. If someone asks for a list give them some ideas... Good luck

Technically no, but he IS only 2 years old, and children are very picky about their presents at that age. So be polite about it. Put a little note at the bottom which reads, "(Son's name) loves trains, cars, and dinosaurs." That way the guests will know what sorts of gifts to buy without them feeling ordered to do so.

A more tasteful way of going about it would be to just subtly hint at it by decorating the birthday invitations with dinosaur, train, and/or car designs. But doing both would probably work too.

gift registry is the way to go, that way if someone buys something off the registry it gets taken off the list so others dont buy the same thing, of course not everyone will buy off of it and some will still be able to go whereever they want and get other things for him, something ive noticed with my kids is i do a themed party with whatever they are into the most at the time and alot of people buy gifts to match the theme. see if you can find some invitations with cars on them then just list he is registered at whatever store

See if you can register his birthday at Target, Walmart,
or a another similar store. (Make sure all the gifts are between $3. and $10.) Make a list of gifts to buy with the store, and state on the invitation: registered at ---the place you registered him--. I do not think this is rude. Although
your guests do not have to use the registered gift list, you can list all child approved toys for 2 year olds.

you could pick invitations with the theme of things he likes like. Invites with trains all over them or dinasours but i wouldnt write it on the invite.. I would just let them ask if they need some ideas.I wouldnt want anyone to feel insulted by me telling them what to buy my child.

I like the idea and there should not be a problem with you putting ideas on the bottom of invites.

Oh yes that is fine. I wish more people I know would do that so I wouldn't end up getting something they do not like. I do for my kids. My son just turn 7 in July and on his it said Transfromers. lol. They still called and made sure they were not getting something he allready had and stuff but it sure made things better on us all.

A lot of people will tell you that that is bad etiquette. However, I think that a simple note like "He loves trains, cars and dinosaurs" would be extremely helpful. I know that I would like a heads up on gifts if I wasn't sure of what to get.

I think it's rude to do that, but what you can do is do a gift registry at Toys "R" Us or another toy store and say "(Child's name) is registered at Toys "R" Us" My mom did that until I was 8 and it worked. Toys "R" Us lets you do it at any age. On the gift registry put what you think he would like.
