I am not a pagan, nor am I a Christian. My own opinion is that magic is the power of the mind to visualize, focus, and set a course of action to the goal. I do not see magic as supernatural, but more along the lines of hope, prayer, and meditation: all good ways to focus on the problem, as long as they are not expected to actually solve the problem in and of themselves. Knowledge of the way nature works, and what we can use (plants etc.) to help nature to progress (healing) is also magic. Ancient alchemists, and modern chemists all practice magick, whether they see it that way or not.

Changing the world around us by and through energy.

Matter and energy are inextricable mixed, as any scientist can tell you. Those who use magick (and I do use the "k" in serious company) have learned how to take better advantage of that fact.

If you are a practitioner, watch "What the Bleep Do We Know?" Quantum science is just now starting to figure out things that witches have known for centuries. The best part is, they're a sreverent about it, in their own way, as we are.

I think magic is deep inside of us all. I think we are all able to achieve some level of magic, whether it be a "feeling of doom" or wishing things to happen and then they do. People try to blow it off as coincidence, I believe most are some form of magic. Magic to me is the understanding of ones power on this earth as the most intelligent of all creatures and at least trying to use the gift that is in all of us in which we can produce an unexpected or surprising result.

The manifestation of a spell, prayer, be it a desired outcome or not. Sometimes what you think you want at the time, really isn't what is best for you in the long run. Hence, some spells don't work. The Goddess and God know what is best for you and can see things you can't.

I think Crowley's definition is probably the best one I've seen.

"The Science and Art of causing Change to occur in conformity with Will."

I don't use the spelling "magick", though, because my own opinion is that if the person you're talking to doesn't understand that you're not talking about slieght of hand, then the extra "k" isn't likely to make any difference.

First, love that last comment, couldn't agree more!:) Second, Magick to me is simply the focusing of energy added with ritual, (to help focus the mind) to get closer to a desired result in my life. Oh yeah gotta add the willingness to work towards your goals and never give up! Bright Blessings to you and yours!

Basically, I feel that magick is the ability to use the energy that exists all around us to cause change to occur in conformity with our will. At least, that's the way my mentor taught it to me, though there are many other definations out there.

It is what prayer is to Christianity. Except that I don't use it for others. As that is wrong.
I use for the positive change in my life's energy.
Never for ill will.
It is my way to make my life better and to give my life's energy a positive outflow.
If I lead a positive life that is how I use religion to better what time I am given to walk my path on earth.

To me, magic is what happens when you align your intentions with the natural energy of the universe. It is the assertion of your will in your own life.

It's merely a change in perception or focus that can bring about effective results. It is always there; one merely needs to use it.

My personal definition is:

Magic is consciously manifesting desire into reality.

Consciously = by mindfully paying attention to one's actions
Manifesting = creating, causing, willing
Desire = the goal at hand; the more clear your desire, the more effective your magic
Reality = what you observe in both your microcosm and the macrocosm around you
