We took her to the vet and they said she had an upper respiratory infection and had to go on antibiotics, which could make her not want to eat and starve to death. She only weighs 1/2 a pound and even before she was put on the medicine would not eat. Now we have to force feed her. All she does is sleep on my lap, she looks so sick. They said she will probably die. Any tips on how she can get better? Please help me, I can't lose her.

My kitten is only 3 weeks old, if that, because her mother left her when she was born. Right now I am force feeding her KMR and taking her to the vet daily to get fluids put into her.

Her name is Mystery, but I spell it Mysterie, for it is a mystery whether she will live.

It is very unfortunate that your cat is sick, I had a kitten that got an upper respiratory infection, it is common for small animals to get that. It will help if you keep the air flowing by the cat at all times, you will have to force feed the cat until it feels up to eating again. Just think about when you are sick the only thing you want to eat is soup, that is because it will go down easy. Also make sure the cat takes plenty of fluids, she is probably dehydrated as well and will feel like eating more if she is properly hydrated!
Good Luck

You didn't say how old this kitten is, so we have little to go on. But, all you can do is what your vet tells you to do. You may want to call them again since she is not eating at all, and they can put her on IV feeding and liquids. But, this also will not guarantee that this kitten will not die. I know it sounds cold--and it surely is NOT meant to be, but--in the animal world, it's survival of the fittest. Some kittens are born very, very fragile, and believe me, it is better if this kitten dies now than if you force her through this illness only to encounter another one, and another one. This will keep you in debt forever just trying to keep up with the vet bills. I wish you the very best, and I DO hope that she survives this, but if she doesn't--just remember that she was basically a sickly kitten to begin with, and sometimes we just can't fix what is totally broken. Listen to your vet, and leave her in God's hands. She will either make it or she won't, and if she does--that's GREAT, if she doesn't, there's a reason. Bless you for trying to keep this baby going.

I am so sorry to hear that.
Get yourself some kitten formula and a syringe and feed her as much as she will take every couple of hours - even through the night, be sure to keep her warm. Ask the vet if there is anything more he could do like maybe even put her on an IV feed. Ask the vet ( by phone if you can't get there,) which is the best formula to use - there is some prescription feed that you can only get from the vet - I think it's called convalescent diet.

what kind of food are you feeding her? maybe she doesn't like it. have you tried different kinds? if it's dry food, maybe you could try the wet canned food until she will eat the dry food on her own. how old is she? maybe she hadn't really learned to eat on her own yet. you could try getting some formula to feed her. they should have kitten formula at walmart or any pet store. i just recently got two kittens and took them both to the vet fri and found out they both had an upper respiratory infection too. it's only been a couple days on the antibiotic and they're doing much better, so i don't know why your kitty would be doing so bad. i'm so sorry. i hope she starts getting better soon!!!

I ''Do Not'' agree with the answers of "putting her out of her misery" when all that can be done hasn't been done. Take her back to vet. They can feed her (IV) way. If you say you don't want to loose her, try everything first. At least if worse comes to worst, you will rest and know you have done everything in your power to try and save her. By the way, did you state she only weighed 1/2 of a lb.? If so, she needs help immediately. She can't afford to even loose an ounce.

You are going to have to buy cat milk from a pet store and feed it to her by a syringe or dropper constantly. Cats really need protein and cat milk has protein and it will rehydrate her. I would take her back to the vet and have her put on an IV for nutrients to get her stronger again two things to try. And good luck my heart really goes out to you, I hope and pray your kitty makes it.

Things can be very iffy with a frail kitten (by her weight I would guess she is not much more than a month old). You are doing everything you can for her so don't let yourself get too distressed about the situation.
I hope she can pull through and start to thrive.

The antibiotic is probably your only hope. Keep trying. Don't put her down, there is hope for her. Do your best to save her and don't give up. But be prepared fro the worst, because it is hard for kittens sometimes.
