hi guys, sorry I know this isn't R&S (even though I thought I was going to die!)....but I'm learning to drive and yesterday while driving home I lost control of the dang steering wheel and got into a fender bender with another car. I was in complete shock and this guy (thank goodness) was so nice. I dented his car bad and was crying b/c of the shock and my ego took a big hit b/c it was entirely MY fault. My brother was teaching me. I don't want to be afraid to try again, I really need my license at 31 yrs old with children. Any suggestions on how to "move on" and continue will be VERY appreciated. Thanks everyone.

Socrates of R&S- I like the way you explained that...

thanks to EVERYONE!!!

I'm feeling lots better and will go at it again soon, maybe I'll put some yellow caution tape on my car first...

The car is inanimate. It is not in control - YOU are. While it is a large chunk of metal that can reach high speeds, it is not something to be afraid of. You need to conquer your fear - know that you are the master of the vehicle and that, while you must respect it, you are always in control.

Now, get out there and try again!! Accidents happen. Dont let it frighten you!! YOU ARE IN CONTROL!

Dont feel bad. Even the best of drivers have gotten into accidents. When i was 16 and getting my license, i felt like Mario Andretto until i got into the accident. My first accident at 16 and i totaled my first car. So you're doing way better than me as far as accidents are concerned. Only way to move on is to get back on the road. How i learned was driving in big empty parking lots or on roads that dont have high traffic. Mastering the fundamentals are key. Driving is not a race especially for a new driver (had to learn the hard way). Take your time and dont worry about the people who may honk or whatver. The ultimate goal is to get that drivers license and get that feeling of success. BEST OF LUCK TO YOU!

I'm sorry you had such a terrifying and embarrassing experience but I also congratulate you on learning to drive!! Yayyyy you!! It's never too late. Well, as for how to get past this, time is the best remedy. Lots of fully licensed and experienced drivers have fender benders or worse, so I wouldn't feel too bad, since you're just learning. Maybe you're just getting the fender bender stuff over with now, instead of later. I'm glad it wasn't fatal or anything. Good luck with getting your license!! You can do it! :)

I don't think I know of anyone who this hasn't happened to...Hey, one time I pressed my foot on the gas instead of the break and took out my garage door...
It happens to everyone...just like falling off a horse...you get right back into the sadle and continue...Good luck...

It happens to evebody, like ~smik~ said.

I once hit a truck on the freeway. It was all my fault. I was changing the radio station and didn't notice that the traffic had slowed down.

You should have let Jesus take the wheel, lol.

Seriously all you can do is try again. If you don't fail at something then that means you are doing nothing. Dust yourself off and try again. : )

It just may be that the Lord was stopping you there because a far greater danger was ahead of you.

for one, you shouldn't be driving out in public until your comfortable with your driving skills.. take yourself out into the country and practice. and then when your feeling like you got the hang of it, go out into the masses.
