I met a guy through a couple of friends, and he offered to give us a tour of the Church of Scientology mission in our town. I thought it was cool. And I ended up marrying the guy. So, yeah - I was introduced to Scientology by the man who became my husband. :)

I wasn't much into it, though, until I had my first Scientology "auditing" session. (Auditing is the word for Scientology spiritual counseling. It comes from the Latin word meaning "audire" which means "to listen" - the auditor asks questions, the person receiving the auditing answers. There is no evaluation given during the session at all. It is NOT like psychology at all!)

It was during that session that I knew something was very different, and very awesome about this religion. That one session actually changed my life.

The only good thing about this question is that the celebrities in this field are promoting Scientology. I wonder how many know that Bart Simpson voice-over and even the music for the Simpsons was written by a Scientologist?

I first heard of it when someone suggested I do a personality test. They're on-line now, so much easier.

I first heard about Scientology when Tom Cruise converted. I heard about it in the media.

I first learned about it when I lived in hollywood. I believe that is the scientology capital...anyway...they have billboards and signs on hollywood bvld offering free IQ and personality tests. They kissed my booty, said I was a genius...though I'm no genius..I'm smart enough not to be sucked into a cult by flattery

Didn't they used to advertise in a magazine?

I know I'd heard about it before Tom Cruise went all nutty about it on TV.

John Travolta is a scientologist, too.

I saw those Dianetics commercials on TV. I was a kid and had no idea it was scientology. I didn't know what the hell it was, because the commercial never said what it was.

I remember hearing something about it when John Travolta first got into it. Can't remember when that was (early-mid '90s?), but it was pre-Tom-Cruise.

I'm not sure to be honest. I had heard of it prior to the South Park episode...but that's when I actually thought, hmmm...I better research a bit on this group.

Many, many years ago. I probably read something about John Travolta and other stars being into it. The more I read, the more I realized it was something with which I wanted no involvement.
