There's a little debate going on amongst some peers. So we'd rather get more takes on our questions

Some of us know its not a healthy thing but others think its ok. The question is.....

"Is it true that if you don't eat anything for a week or a month or etc... (drink water only) will you lose weight?"

Some of us say that the most you will lose is energy. However, some say if you drink natural water and "viatamin" water ALONE (no fruits, no vegetables, no meat) you will lose weight.

What do you think???

I appreciate your opinion. And if you have some add ons about losing weight, that would be highly appreciated as well :-)

I think that if you don't eat anything for a week, month, etc. you will definitely lose weight but it'll all come back the first time you start eating anything. You'll also lose energy too. I don't think drinking water fortified with vitamins will help much. They don't have enough to keep your body functioning properly.

You can fast healthily, lose weight and improve insulin balance if you do it with your brain in gear.I fast on a regular basis but I look forward to eating as well. I fast for 20 hours and eat all I want for 4 hours. Anyone can tell you that fasting is bad for you but no one mentions the fact that we all fast. That is why we have breakfast...to break the fast between dinner from the night before and your first meal the next day. Another way to fast, which is what I do on ocasion, is to eat one meal one day and 2 meals the next. I like to think that i am helping my body to work the food. I allow digestion to be completed. Considering the fact that it takes 3 days to completely digest a steak, imagine how long 3-4 meals plus snacks could take. I find it silly to go for longer than 2 or 3 days to fast when less will suffice. The best part of fasting is the time that you eat, so make sure that you eat well. Meat and vegetables are good at stabilizing insulin so when you go through the fasting period, you won't have an insulin spike. Remember not too long ago, there was no such thing as breakfast, lnch and dinner. As a matter of fact, with no modern refrigeration, Krogers and processed foods, eat once a day had to be difficult so remember these things. Take it easy. If you fast without thinking, then you will experience poor results.

It is true. A diet of water will cause you to lose weight. However, since your body will think it is starving, the weight loss will be muscle not fat. The body will horde its fat reserves to use until the end. At the end of the water diet, when you start to eat again, any weight that was lost will quickly come back.
The best way to lose weight is to do so slowly and healthy. Change your eating habits. Put more fruit and vegetables in your diet. Eat leaner meats. Treat yourself once a week so you don't feel deprived. If a person can lose one pound a week steadily, they will be healthier and more apt to keep the weight off than a person who goes on a crash diet.

You would likely loose weight , but only because your body is starving itself and therefore has to utilize what it already has in order to maintain function. You have to have essential vitamins, minerals and yes even fats in order to maintain organ and brain function. Besides not being able to function at your best while basically fasting you can damage organs if you are not careful and it would not be a permenate weight loss.. you can't go longer than a week without eating unless you prefer hospitilazation. If you want to loose weight AND be healthy, WALK 30 minuets a day (2x's a day is even better if you can), watch your calorie intake good vs. bad cholesterol, drink lots of water, and don't eat until you "feel" full eat what portions you should have or 5 small meals a day, your stomach will get used to the smaller portion, and get fuller faster. If you have a problem with obesity talk to your doc. about the best weight loss, and especially if you have diabetes or heart issues. What you are discussing is a crash -fad diet, and those do not work, and they are not healthy~
Good Luck!

Yes, of course you will lose weight. When I was a young guy, in my late teens, I didn't know how to lose weight properly and I wanted to get the attention of this one particular girl. So I would fast 3 - 9 days then eat for 3 - 5 days. Stupid way to do it, but I did drop weight. And actually after the first couple of days, your energy returns. Fasting to lose weight is not totally bad, but it has to be done rationally. In this age of excess, either stuffing or starving ourselves, it isn't really the best way to go UNLESS you are medically supervised.

Your body is just going to go into starvation mode.
You'll lose weight at first, but the second you start eating again, you'll gain weight like it's going out of style!
So unless you want to die, I wouldn't recommend that.

What I would recommend (which is showing me great results right now)

600-700 calories a day in vegetables, fruits, 60 cal-non fat yogurts, and vegetarian meat.
Drinking ONLY water.
And doing 2 to 2 and a half hours a day of biking, walking, and dancing.

:-)

You WILL lose weight if you fast for a week (if you do it for a month, you'll likely die or at least be severely ill). At the same time, it's only a temporary solution. Not eating enough, or under 1200 calories a day, makes your body go into "starvation mode"-- which means it converts most/everything into fat. So, to translate: when you start eating again, you're going to have a screwed up metabolism that turns everything into fat, thinking you're starving, and you're going to gain all that weight back. Plus more.

Bad to do.

The weight that you loose will be primarily muscle. Your body will go into starvation mode and start feeding off the muscle in your body before the fat, so yes the scale will move, but the loss of energy you feel will be due to loss of muscle mass. Also, once you start to eat again, your body will store up as much as it can, not knowing when the next meal will be, so you will ultimately put on more weight than you started with, and you will have lost the muscle to boost your metabolism to burn the fat.

you will lose weight. and muscles, and your skin will sag off your body. your metabolisem will slow down very much, makeing u save energy and gain fat. u can go 3 days with out water, then die. you can go 14days with out food and die.ok. i learned this in basic training.its dose not matter if it is via water or not your body is not getting what it needs. it will strip your bones down for calcium, which will make u prone to brakes and when that happens it will hard to heal becouse your body has no energy to heal, it only has energy to keep u alive barly.your brake dose not heal u get gaingreen, they have to ampitate it and now ur one less limb and probably to weak to move so ur body will give up.
i would not advice it even for a day.

Starving yourself is not healthy first off. You might lose weight but your body will start to eat your muscles. If you want to lose weight, do it the right way. Diet and exercise.
