My kitty Bill was so sweet and lovable when I adopted him at just a few months old. Now that he is a little over a year old his whole personality has changed. He bites me all the time, and it is not a hard bite but he claws along with that. Sometimes he knows better and just bats at me without his claws but he will rarely ever just come lay on my lap. He always sleeps on my bed by my feet when I go to sleep. If I am lucky I will catch him snuggling up to me at night. My b/f and I work fulltime so we are gone all day at work. What is his behavior displaying and is there a way to slowly fix it??

***I am having a baby soon and I don't want him to be mean, not that I would let the baby around him anyways.***

He's trying to play with you. get some toys. Petsmart or Wal-mart has a bag of toys under $10. Spend about 30 minutes a day playing with him and get him neutered and I bet he'll calm down.

First is your cat neutered, it makes a great difference in the animals behaviour. Male cats become calm and much more snuggly. And females slow down a bit but the change is much bigger in males. Secondly you said you work alot and being pregnant you must be really tired which is normal, but do you spend enough play time with your cat he's probably bored all cats need play time with there owners it's as important as feeding them. One other thing I really believe in is owning two cats not one a cat alone is usually unhappy but two cats have more fun and play with each other, just don't get the same sex in the other cat if you choose to do this. It really is less work than having one cat because when you can't play with it has company and that's really good if your gone for long periods of time. Just something to think about, it's a tough one for you because your pregnant. Good ludk and Congratulations.

We had the EXACT same problem with a dog we used to have. He would bite someone if they hit someone (playfully of course) or even hit a table or the couch or something. We ended up putting it to sleep for the same reason--we were scared to let him around any kids or our family. We tried a lot of things - He was neutered, we bought him toys, we bought two other dogs, hoping it would help him, (and because we love dogs, so it was a win win situation) but nothing worked! There was a lady we knew that got her dog from the same place, (it was called "Critters" in Utah) and she said they were sewing them, because they get most of their animals from farms. That was it! He was from a puppy farm!! We figured his personality was like that because he had to learn to defend himself, and just like yours, he was very cute and sweet in the beginning. His behaivior might just be displaying defense, though he probably doesn't need to defend himself with you, but it's just his immediate instinct. There are books you can buy, (Cats for Dummies or something) or you can have someone come train him or send him off to kind of a boarding school for pets and it should help fix it. We had our dog for a while, (he was about 15) so we figured it would just be best to put him to sleep rather than spend a bunch of money on him when we wouldn't even have a lot of time with him left anyways. Hope that helps! Good luck!

Maybe you should get some new toys and spend more time playing with him. We try to put different toys out to keep our cats guessing. Even hiding toys can be fun for cats. Also, pets are strange, he can probably sense the baby is coming and you've probably spent less time with Bill and more time thinking about the baby. Good luck.

He wants to play. Get a laser pointer, string, shoelaces, cat furniture.

Before the baby, buy Soft Paws. An ounce of prevention and all that. Here's some links.

1. Neuter him if you haven't already.
2. Be patient. As he grows older he will be calmer.
3. I suggest you get him a companion. My cat was like that, especially when we were away for many hours. He was lonely and this was his idea of play. Ever since we got the new kitty, they play rough between them and not with us. Plus he will learn to be less of an "only child" and will accept teh baby more easily.
