you need some form of edu cred and you ned to pass the asvab

If you have a ged, cont hs diploma, adult home school, you need to score higher and you need a clean record. The recruiter needs to establish if you even have a chance

tradtional 4yr high school diploma is what we want and need the most qualified

Also asvab plays a part I am a Navy recruiter and I work in the Inland Empire most people cannot even pass this test. which is sad because it is basic math and the highest is basic algebra as well as reading skills and vocabualry

Minimum standards is a GED or better. HOWEVER each branch sets its own requirements on how many GED holders they will accept per year, with the Navy and Air Force accepting few if any per year.

Additionally, GED holders must score higher on the ASVAB(50 instead of 35) to qualify, AND they are restricted in what jobs they can get as well as what bonuses they can get.

BUT.. 15 100 level or higher(basically, one semester) of College courses will elevate that GED to the same level as a High School Diploma, thus removing most of the previously mentioned restrictions.

A high school diploma or GED..
I read in the paper just yesterday though, that the Army is setting up classes for students who have dropped out but are still interested in joining the miiltary. It's an intense 3 weeks of school and everything. They even make you get up at 5 in the morning to do PT, then you have classes. This course is designed for those who are interested in the military career, but were short of graduation.

High school diploma and once in a great while a GED will suffice for the Army or USN. You also need to take the ASVAB and achieve a 31 or above. The ASVAB is a general education test that covers reading, general science, mathmatics, and word knowledge etc.

would have been better if you had specified the country?? they all have different requirements. however as a general rule for privates it is high school and officers a college degree in most cases. officer entries are also made for young people after high school and they have to undergo 3-4 four years training prior to commission(west point, sandhurst, nda etc)
for detailed information contact the nearest military commander or log on to their web site and you will get the required inputs. GOOD LUCK

High school diploma or your GED. The National Guard will pay you to get your GED if you don't have one, ya can't beat that.
You also have to score high enough on the ASVAB test.
