My cat is like 3 years old. He was abandoned and hit on the highway when he was just a few weeks old and I have had him since then. He has always been a little needy (which I understand) and like to sleep on my bed above my head (which doesn't bother me). He even "nurses" or "suckles" on my arm/hand still. All of this is fine, he only does it when he is winding down for the night and now it is mostly when the other cats are not interested in his affection.

Here is the problem, in the last few weeks, he has been getting up around 3am every single night and going crazy - climbing on furniture in my room, scratching the walls or blinds basically until I wake up. I have tried locking the cats outside of my bedroom because EVERY night this goes on for like 2 hours - but when I do that he scratches at the door and it is even louder than him meowing and scratching in the room. The other 2 cats are fine. How can I teach him to leave me alone at night?

He has been nutered since he was first old enough because I had two other female kittens at the same time. They are all 'fixed.'

I have a cat that does the same thing...only during the day. The mother cat was a wild cat and she gave birth under a friends house and she ate (EEWW) the other kittens except my cat and one other.

Anyway, my cat is crazy but sweet too. She will start this weird meowing thing and she will scratch the paint up on my walls. But she just fixates on one or two spots.

I would say a vet exam is in order. My cat checked out just fine and since she does not do it at night it does bother me too much. (ok, the scratched up paint bothers me) but I just figure it is my ctas kooky way given her tramatic birth. But I would for sure make sure to have her checked out by a vet. And try really playing with your cat a little before bed time. Have him chase a string or play with a toy if he has one he likes. Maybe tire him out before bed time.

Annoying, huh? Yeah, my cats wake me up at 4:30 am to be fed. I can usually ignore them for an hour or so, but then they get aggressive! Nibbling on my ears, etc.

I have just started using an automatic timed feeder. This morning, it was set for 5am. This was the first morning I actually woke up when my alarm clock went off, rather than with two kittens with their butts in my face. Hooray! As for the energy, cats are nocturnal.

This may sound crazy, but put a fan in your room. The best nights sleep I have ever gotten are when I have a fan on because the steady noise of the fan drowns out honking car horns, annoying kids playing outside before school, kittens climbing the walls, etc.

Try that!

My cat does the same thing (She's not even a year old)! She goes nuts during the early morning hours when i'm trying to sleep! I think it's just because she's alone for most of the day and sleeps...then at night she just gets revved up! She's a nite-owl, I guess! Most of the time though, cats get calmer as they age...so it's probably just a phase!

Get a laser pointer and play with him before you go to bed. He should be exhausted enough to sleep the night with you. Also remember, cats are naturally noctornal. My cat likes to howl at the moon at 3am. Ugh

Play with him in the evening, don't let him sleep while you are at home especially in teh evening. And feed him well just before you go to bed. He will sleep if he is exhausted and full, I think. We have also used the automatic feeder, like the answerer above. This worked well for us too.

Since this just started I would say he needs a vet exam.
And, get him neutered if he isn't already.
