"great masses of ice have now been replaced by moraines of earth and stones," and "at many points well-known glaciers have entirely disappeared."

So read the headlines on page 2 in the Nov. 2, 1922 edition of The Washington Post.

And 85 years later, Seals still thrive, Icebergs still exist, the Arctic is at normal temperature, there are no stones replacing ice, and glaciers still are in place.

So what was the problem in 1922? Probably an excess of horses. There probably was a push to get rid of gassy horses and to get clean burning automotives on the road.

Well, 1921 was the third warmest year in US history, and indications are that this applied to Canada as well. I'd guess that maybe there was a short period of warmer than normal Arctic weather in the early 1920s leading to less cool Arctic winds blowing into North America.

It would be interesting to see if that Arctic warming trend extended into the hottest year in US history, 1934. (As a bit of trivia, 1936 was Minnesota's warmest year which makes you wonder if there wasn't some trend during the 30s also before all of the global cooling from 1940-1980.)

It's no real surprise that after the centuries of glacial advance experienced during the Little Ice Age, that there should be a period of retreat in the centuries to follow. And the fact that this occurred without significant contributions of man-made CO2 does make one want to know just how much of the current temperature change is man-made.

I don't buy that the Earth should have experienced no more than a 0.1C increase over the last 150+ years without man's intervention.

Well global warming has been on going concern on for around 150 years by now.I imagine it was a bad enough problem even then.It is surely more worse now.I even hear of some islands nations in the South Pacific evacuating literally their entire nations to places like New Zealand and Australia because their islands our so close to sea level as it is now and in a few years They'll be islands no more.Plus the most recent summers have been record breakers as well.

Illogical. Just because glaciers were disappering in 1922 does not mean that they're not disappearing now, or that Global Warming is not happening.

Sorry to burst your little bubble of logic, but Global Warming started with the agricultural revolution thousands of years ago.
Slash& burn methods of farming, along with felling of the ancient forests for firewood. Now that we're burning fossil fuels, the rate of impact on the Climate is increasing! If you think that Global Climate Change is a fraud, then why are 5 countries trying to claim the North pole? The ice HAS melted to record levels! Oh yeah, don't forget about the powerful hurricane that is battering Hawaii,or the severe flooding, and storms across the central US ! Melted ice doesn't lie!
Unless you have a degree in Natural Sciences, don't claim to know what's going on in the climate!
