strictly speaking, they are not secularists at all because they are interfering with private religious observance, so it's only phony 'secularism.'

both are scary. Which is scarier: the Taliban or the atheist cult of the Great Ruler in N Korea?

Once again, it's like asking what's more green: the yellow flower or the blue one.

But I find religious extremists scarier. Aggressive secularists are trying to make things right, albeit in an extremely misguided manner, reducing everything to the lowest common denominator. But most of them not only won't die for their beliefs, they're also not interested in taking me with them. That's the mark of the religious extremist.

And there's nothing scarier than someone convinced he's going straight to paradise if he can send me to hell at the same time.

Although there are a lot of examples of religious extremists in todays society, I'm not even sure about aggressive secularists. Can you give examples?

They are both pretty scary.

It's rather disingenuous to argue, as some here do, that "secularists never killed anyone in the name of secularism". This is to gloss over the fact that they still kill plenty of people (remember Hitler, Stalin, Pol Pot...?)! They just don't have a religion to blame. This like saying "My Billy never killed anyone with a knife" forgetting to mention that he used an axe instead.

I've never heard of secularists killing people in the name of secularism, whereas it happens rather a lot with religious extremists.

They are not trying to eradicate religion, they are trying to eradicate religious discrimination. It's people like you that are the problem, not the French government.

Religious extremists - they have Divine justification for violence and hatred, which is scary to oppose.

Though both can be less than useful to society.

The first are exclusive, the second are inclusive.
We would all like to be included,
Extremists are always scary.

hmmm... I'm a religious extremist (christian), but I don't force my beliefs on anyone, only to people who WANT to know about God.

But Islamic suicide bombers, and people who ban religion I think are equally scary.
