You can do it either way...if you want the money right away when you have to pay though, you should do it 6-8 weeks before...

If you choose to do this over the internet, you and your parent(s) need to get electronic signatures first...you can find this on fafsa's home page...they send you and your parent(s) a number which you use as your signature...

If you have any other specific questions, e-mail me through my profile page...

You should fill it out after you apply for college. If you were applying to begin college in Fall of 2008 then you would turn in your applications by Summer/Fall of 2007. You would hear back from your schools at the beginning of 2008 and at about the same time you apply for fafsa. Go to this link: http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/before003a.htm
All the fafsa deadlines vary according to each state so you should go on there and check for yourself.

The year you start college you can fill out the FAFSA starting January 1. I suggest you do it ASAP after the start of this filing date to make you the most eligible for the most awards.

Fill out the FAFSA as soon after Jan 1st of each year as you have the required tax information.

People who get their financial aid request in earliest get the most money possible. The later you wait, the more aid that is already given away.
