The common misconception is the confession of Jesus as lord and acceptance as your savior will get you into heaven.

If it were that easy, why would there be a need to live holy, why would there be any other scripture that instructs us to do this or that?

Something I have learned is that salvation is free, but maintenance will cost you! ;)

I have some friends who are athiest, and are absolute sweet hearts, they're good people, who havent accepted Jesus.

On the flip side I know some Christians who attend church every sunday and are active in church, but they lie cheat steal and gossip. Yet they've accepted christ.

Its not the acceptance Christ that makes you a better person. You would think, given everything Christ stands for and died for, that accepting Jesus WOULD result in a better sense of morals and values, but that is not always the case.

People are good or bad, based on their actions, contributions, not their faith. Besides, Faith is the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen... but people who are of different faith, arent "bad" just for their faith.

If you truly accept Jesus in your heart, that means you repent (turn from your sins) and pursue holiness, you cannot be the same person you once were, if you get saved and you continue doing same thing and keep on sinning, that means that you never truly was saved in the first place. However we all have sinned and we are not perfect, but when you know God, and have a daily relationship with HIm, you cant keep on sinning because you know that your sins were the reason why He had to be crucified and suffer all the terrible things that He did... But to answer your question, if you are saved you are no better then a person who's not...God loves all people the same but He hates the sin....and if people go to hell it's their own choice...free will...

Then in your heart you really didn't accept Him,, Because to accept Jesus into your heart will make you want to repent,, and change your old ways,, doesn't mean that you will never sin again,, but that you would feel bad about it and pray for forgiveness, and try to not sin any more.. Accepting Jesus doesn't give you a free ticket to be bad whenever you want to.

I'm curious where you developed this understanding?

Probably not in a church . . . no preacher would be so stupid as to preach this. And most people in churches know just how bad they are – that’s one of the reasons they are in church.

Is this the attitude you sense from people on-line, who claim to be Christians? Barry Bonds claims to not use steroids, so, what do you sense from him?

Have you developed this understanding from people you know personally? If you’re hanging around people who claim to be better then other people, I encourage you to find new friends – why would anyone want to be around arrogant people?

Perhaps your question is so vague, I’m just not understanding it correctly.

I accepted Jesus, and it made be a better person than I was, no better than anyone else, just better than I used to be. But acceptance didn’t make me better – following Jesus closely makes me a better person.

Is that what you mean?

Godspeed.

It's amazing how many of the non-Christians seem to think they can answer for Christians. No, no, no, don't listen to the Christians because they might say something sensible... instead listed to our straw man parodies....

Someone who's accepted Jesus won't be a bad person overall, because anyone who is a bad person overall hasn't truly accepted Jesus. The two states are incompatible with each other. Anyone who claims to have repented of his or her sins and to hate those sins, yet there's no noticeable change in his or her behavior has clearly not repented. It would be like someone saying that he or she is an atheist, yet also believes that God answers his or her prayers.
And Christians aren't "better persons" ontologically than non-Christians.

I'm sorry but you do not understand. Faith without works is dead. We are to work to be Christ-like. We are to repent of our sins and sin no more. This should happen when you accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior and receive the Holy Spirit. This is the part that has you confused. We are only human and make mistakes. We will be forgiven for those mistakes (sins), but we cannot keep doing it if we know it is wrong. Then it is no longer a mistake. It is then clearly a decision to sin.

God Bless.

Even the Devil belives in Jesus. To really 'accept' Jesus involves much more. It means being a follower or disciple of him. Doing good is part of whats required.

This is a common fallacy; that one just "accepts" Jesus.

One must believe the message he preached, which was later clarified in the preaching of the apostles.

And because of the nature of the gospel message, no one has any right to boast that they are better than anyone else, as God can give understanding in relation to the gospel to anyone He so chooses.

There is no boasting in true Christianity.

Nope, a good person is a good person, regardless of what beliefs they profess to adhere to. Same with a bad person.

If someone truly "accepts" Jesus, they will live their life in such a way that they emulate His example and teachings (i.e. a "good" person). Those who don't haven't truly "accepted" Jesus.
