You can buy your ticket online. Do you know which airline you are flying with, if so bring up their web page and it will help you through the booking, and then just pay with you card and print up the details and that is your ticket. You usually save quite a bit by booking online. If that fails, go to a travel agent, but don't try to book at the airport on the day because the chances are there will be no seats available.

It is very easy. There is no paper ticket. They will email you a confirmation number. All you need is the number. Some people print the number out and carry it with them. Others just have it on their smart phone. You could even right it down. If you loose the number the airline can still retrieve your electronic ticket if you show them your ID. You can go online and check in for your flight within 24 hours of departure time and print your boarding pass then. Or they will just print your boarding pass when you check in at the airport. The people that work at the airports are all very friendly and will help you get it all figured out.

In general, buy your ticket several weeks before you want to travel.
If you just walk up to the counter the day you want to fly, you will pay a lot of money. You could easily save $500 to $1000 by buying your ticket ahead of time.
Since it's your first time flying, you may want to visit a travel agent. They can help with any other questions you might have.
Once you become a more experienced traveller, you'll want to use on-line sites like Travelocity, Orbitz, or the actual airline websites.

It's probably better to go through a travel agent several weeks in advance of your proposed flight. They can save you money over buying the ticket at the airport - which isn't a common practice anyway. You can also buy your ticket online with a credit card. Buying ahead of time means you can choose your seat also.

dont buy the day you fly ... there might not be space on the flight. if you dont know how to do it online go to a travel agency. booking your flights early is cheaper most of the time rather than last minute.
you can buy online using a credit card and printing your ticket. i find it cheaper doing it yourself.
go to www.whichbudget.com
and click where you want to fly to (or from) and it will tell you which airlines fly to and from that place.
hope it helps! and good luck
