And the R&S board in many respects is like an extended family.....

A lot of us "know" each other by experience well enough, though there are many members we don't see so often.

We might not all like each other. Some of us are downright hostile to each other..... But even to those we don't much like, we can probably see some sort of worth in their presence. Once you oppose someone long enough, it becomes very odd and uncomfortable if they just vanish away...... rather like losing a brother or sister.
Even the ones you hate, you love really.

I wouldn't go so far as to start asking who fills what role, as there are clearly too many people to fill all the conventional roles fairly.... You'd have to extend the family pretty far.

I do feel somewhat like I'm just the "couch dude" of the family though... The squatter who has just been living on the couch since time immemorial, often forgotten and generally preferring it that way.

You crafty git...

The slightest suggestion that everyone here be as family and for at least a moment they will put aside their differences and do the group hug thing....

... And then they'll pick it up where they left off and completely forget this ever happened.

Are you trying to prove something by doing this?

We do have an interesting family here. I was just telling some friends about this place, and it was difficult to explain what YA R&S is, without going into a long drawn out explaination. I'm LDS and I finally just said that "There's this place on Yahoo called YA there's an R&S section and there's quite a few of us (LDS) there." It seemed like such a disservice.
There are so many here that I just ignore, some that I dislike, and a few that I look for, but it wouldn't be the same if everyone were not here.

I guess I'm one of those weird, distant, black sheep, cousin's that you only see at family reunions or when I want to be seen.

I liken the R&S Family to what I call "visual aquantances" or "club friends".

I see them frequently. I have some idea of their oppinions, likes, and dislikes. I have a mild crush on (what I perceive as) some of them.

Ultimately though, I do not really know them. If they were to do something out of charactor, I would not be surprised since I am not totally sure what their charactor is.

ADD: Can I be the family reuniun crasher everyone assumes some one else invited, but no one actually asks?

I like the analogy. But I can't even define my role within my REAL dysfunctional family. I wouldn't know where to begin to do so here!
And you're right... I think I'd even miss the people who regularly get on my nerves.

This made me smile a little bit. Either that or the massive dose of Valium I just took kicked in.

Yeah, I'd probably be the pill-popping, alcoholic, man-chasing aunt.

I feel that way too sometimes. I think the way people truly get recognized is by the questions they ask. I'm more of a person who likes to answer than ask
