ok its kinda long so bear with me. i had just lost my dog that i had had since i was 4. and after a few months talked my mom into getting another dog. she said it had to be medium in height, not a puppy, not loud, must be from a shelter, must not shed alot, must be tottally devoted to us, etc. so we started looking and looking and none of the dogs seemed to fit the right description. i had decided that if it was a girl her name would be gretchen and if it was a boy it would be named toby.l one day i was a on the website looking at dogs to adopt and i came across this dog, her name was gretchen, she was a pup, was already house broken, VERY gentle, but shy, medium height, did not shead alot, and had never barked there. i thaught this was to good to be true, so i talked my mom into looking at her. when we got there the 1st thing she did was lay right on my lap and that is when we knew. my q is, is this a sign from god or some thing or did god make this story ment to be or what?

the weird thing is that she fit just about every discription we had! she was so loyal, like one time i was walking her on the side walk and it was just her and i and this irish setter comes at us snarling and barking. i was frozen in fear. she put her back feet on mine and let out the biggest and 1st bark i had ever herd her do. luckly the owner called the dog back. she was so loyal and brave! its just so uncanny that she fit every description we had!

Sounds like the kind of thing he often does, giving us the desires of our hearts.

Did you misspell dog as god? I dont get it - you think that god is talking to you because he provided you with this dog because she did something out of the ordinary that you requested? It's normal things for a dog to be loyal (also perceived as bravery) and that is how they got the title "mans best friend".
The other things you wanted were all just preferences of normal dog specifications and the fact is you choose "not loud" which is pretty vague since most dogs are quiet, that's why dogs that bark and growl alot are problem dogs. "Medium in height" and "not shed alot" covers a massive amount of breeds and Gretchen is a name, maybe no the most popular name but certainly not an obscure one. So you got all the things you wanted but really what out of these things do you think is amazing? The fact that you got them all together just shows you, you're expectations were reasonable. If you had wanted a huge, hairless, singing dog called Bambooka and you got him and then he came home and gave you a high five then I would be impressed. A dog laying on your lap is normal.

I hope that you find contentment with Gretchen and that you're very happy together but I dont think you need to thank God for her. Well done for going to a dog from a shelter, I really wish I could but Im simply not available enough time of the day for a dog at the moment. :o(

Nice story, but to answer you question is no - unless god is very very boring I dont think its a sign.

Honestly, I don't see anything that has to do with God or anything supernatural... I've seen plenty of dogs named Gretchen, as well as dogs that fit the description you gave, so I'm pretty sure a dog named Gretchen would have had to come up with the same description at some point.

Did you pray for this type of dog?
It could be one of those little special blessings God
gives at times - similar things have happened in my
own life - it was like God saying "I care!"
I believe He does care even about small things like
that. He knows the number of hairs we have on our
head - that is a scripture in the Bible.
He notices even when a sparrow falls to the ground and
dies - another scripture.
I lost my dog I had for 14 years and my husband wanted
a cat. Our cat happened to be born on the same day
my dog died and has a similar personality, even walks
on a leash and wags his tail like my previous dog did!
I don't believe in reincarnation, but I love my new cat.
He is just purr-fect!

I look at it this way.. If it's a good thing, it has to have something to do with God. He is responsible for ALL things good, and there can be nothing good where he is absent. :) From what you've said, it sounds like the situation is very good. I tend not to believe in coincidences. If I were in your shoes I think I would adopt that pup right away! But that's how I am. lol.

I would say 1(name toby) + 1(name gretchen) =2

x=how many shelters are there
y=average number of dogs in each shelter
z=average number of dogs with the description you gave in each shelter

2 divided by the product of xyz = chance of getting the perfect dog

My point here is that you just got lucky.

A coincidence/miracle is when God does something cool and chooses to remain anonymous.

To the person with a relationship with God, everything has the hand of God in it.

To the person who doesn't know God, everything is a coincidence.

It's a good story . . . you know God's place in the story.

Godspeed.

It's possible.

The point is, we should be grateful for what blessings come our way, whether God was behind them or not.
