I know this is a bad place to ask about GOD and Christianity because there are so many athiests that love to clutter your question.

First of all PLEASE no harassment or judgements.

Anyway lately I have not been reading the bible or praying to God because in the bible there's a lot of....woman bashing in there. I don't have specific refrences but here are some examples:

Women who are accused of adultery or getting pregnant before marriage are stoned and killed or have to drink this stuff to sterilize them. Or they have to be submissive and slave to their husbands and men are supposed to rule over. If men are to commit adultery or any other crime they aren't punished as bad. Unless they kill the whole city because their sister was raped.

Should I just ignore and skip over the woman bashing thing or what?

Don't answer if you're gonna say "That doesn't say that in the bible" because it does
Don't answer if you're gonna say "God doesn't exist, God hates women"

My main question is, how to read the bible when all the woman bashing just bothers you and makes you have a bad taste in your mouth about God?

"Women should not talk in church, that include asking question on religious message boards. If you have any questions go home and ask your husband or father."

That too! I swear God hates women right?

Well, why would you want to subject yourself to that? Religions are exclusionary by nature; and a woman joining a religion is like a black joining the KKK. Why would you? Why do you feel you have to? Is their any reason beyond the fact that you were told this was true while you were a child, before you had a developed ability to reason?

Hello,

Just remember that those were the laws and cultural norms of those ancient times and one has to assess things from the context of those times. Societies evolved and changed a lot over the last 4000 years and what was believed and accepatable then like slavery and women as lower on the pecking order does not apply today. Don't forget that even in our western culture, it has only been 3 generations or so since women got the vote and could run for political office.

Michael

PS By the way those ancients who do not match up to our standards today would have been horrified at the way our families function today. Quite a few parents after the almighty dollar not rearing their kids, putting our old ailing parents into nursing homes and institutions so we won't be inconvienenced etc.

It’s not God doing the bashing… those patriarchs did that when they determined women evil and God male…they had to eradicate the primeval worship of the Great Goddess therefore some tale and myth fabrication was required to establish the new ‘all male’ contemplation and intellect religion. It had to be a woman who ‘forced’ poor Adam to sin against god (that Adam guy must have been a real moron to be so easily bamboozled)…and then came Paul the all woman hater…what a religion…what an inspiration to the generations to come…
Do your self a favour and read proverbs 31… the good wife; you’ll be overwhelmed with the things a woman has to do and put-up with so as to be called good while her indolent husband sits with his friends drinking his life away… then you can decide if bible is the true word of god or the fiction of twisted minds…
There are so many real sacred books one can read besides the tampered with bible…

Hi and good morning....This is how I try to understand the Bible and the issue that you have...which by the way is understandable. I had a similar question regarding the Bible and I was concerned, so I went to my pastor and asked him for assistance to help me understand God's word. He told me that when one reads the Bible you have to understand that it was written in the Biblical era where cultures and laws were different as of today. The people that were mainly in the Bible were from the Middle East and the cultures and laws were much different than let's say America has now. Adultery was a main concern of Gods back in the Biblical times and that is why He made His Commandments. Stealing, murder, slandering one's name and so forth. The rules or laws were different back in that time period. Roman laws were strict as of other laws within the country so one has to consider the fact. If a woman back in that time was caught in adultering then she was usually 'stoned' to death, this was the law of the land. It wasn't Gods law but mans law at the time. Different cultures different laws. For example Mary, she was pregnant and not married to Joseph at the time. If she hadn't become married to Joseph she probably would have been stoned or put to death in some other way due to their laws or possibly thrown out of her family due to her pregnancy and not being married. This is why Joseph married Mary before she started 'showing' per say. Also remember Mary Magdelene? She was being stoned for her sin as well by her own people until Jesus stopped the crowd. God didn't condone stoning women it was the law of the land and the individuals who lived upon the land. These were mans laws not Gods. God punished in His own way not by mans way. So when reading the Bible, just remember the time and the place that it was written, then you might understand it better. Hope this has helped. Have a blessed day!

That is only considered woman bashing in the world of today. Back during those times in history, that was simply a part of their culture. Overlooking something like this is what we call cherry-picking. You ignore the parts of the bible you dislike and focus on the parts you do like. If the bible is the word of God, it should be of equal important all throughout. The fact that we no longer agree with some of the cultural practices of the these times a few thousand years ago just goes to show that what's good today may not be good tomorrow, therefore we MUST question God's laws. We must be certain which practices are only good for a certain time period and which ones are good forever (if any).

God does not hate women. You need to remember that the Christian Bible was written over many thousands of years. It was written at a time in history and in a region of the world where the customs and civilized behavior were drastically different from what we experience in today's society. It was also written by many different people and stories and accounts of how life came to be were handed down, exagerated, etc. over many thousands of years. then there is the issue of meaning. there is the literal interpretation and the non-literal interpretation. in the literal, each word was taken by subsequent generations exactly as it was written. the non-literal is to iterpret hidden/deaper meaning from the stories in the Bible and not rely on each word.

it is sad, but the freedoms that women enjoy today in western culture especially, are vastly different than what they enjoyed just 100 years ago (not to mention 2000 years ago and beyond). The world is constantly changing, the role of women has changed significantly, and the Bible has remained unchanged! This tells me that you can not take the meanings in the Bible so literal, as most of the actual meanings are outdated. however, read it in the spirit in which it was written. look for the deeper meanings and you will learn how to be the best person you can be. Learn what not to do, and how not to treat people. I've learned just as much if not more from bad managers at different jobs in my life, as I have from the good ones! Even though it is outdated, it is also timeless!

Remember, the bible was written by men - - for men. If you think there's a lot of wierd stuff in the bible ( and there sure is ), try the Koran or the Torah. In all three, women are somewhat below a donkey. After all, donkeys cost money.
With everything stacked against them in the "holy" books, women are far more religious than men. Some things are really hard to understand.

For one thing when you read something in the old testament you have to look for it in the new testament because Jesus did away with alot of them old laws. Now to the women being submissive to their husbands. That is in the new testament, but it also says that men are to love their wives as Christ loved the church. He loved the church so much that he hung on the cross and died for us. When husbands are loving like and being like that then we as wives have no problem submitting.

I'm a woman who is married to an unsaved man and I still give my 100% and submit in all things except if it goes against the word of God. As a christian who is representing Christ I hope to win him over some day.

Women were made from man for them. Man wasn't made for us. We're to be their help meets. God bless and don't give up on the bible or Jesus. Just keep praying and he'll reveal the truths.

some do, yet i do no longer think of they could desire to. a brilliant variety of the Hebrew writing interior the previous testomony became written after the events and transcribed from custom. I understand countless the hot testomony stuff could have been additionally. i be attentive to Y'Shua's (in accordance to different writings from the time, that possibly became Jesus’ real call) words have been written later by utilising others. He did no longer write something. I study at present that became real relating to the Quran. The words are Muhammad's yet he did no longer write them down. somebody else did later. As I stated a brilliant variety of persons pass via a brilliant variety of hardship attempting to teach each and every be conscious is real and from God. that's obvious to me lots is legends and fabricated to impact the Hebrews and, later, the Jewish cult that over some centuries stepped forward into Christianity. a pair examples are the thoughts of Samson and activity. i've got confidence they're only classes approximately marriage regulations and loyalty to God. interior the Quran, there are issues i hit upon very clever, like the warning approximately vengeance; yet there are some issues that i think ought to serve frequently Muhammad. One is his explanation to his different halves and yet another is battling to the death for Islam. I study religions, and different philosophies, and the two books are solid representations of cultures' perspectives of themselves, their international, God and the family between those. Too many human beings attempt to place extra into them than is in there. it rather is the place the hardship starts off. in case you decide directly to be attentive to approximately God, close the books and seem around you. he's everywhere exterior the books. fairly little of him is in there.

Both adulterers were to be stoned under the old covenant. That's why Jesus in John 8 said that he who had not sinned should cast the first stone. The problem was that they had unfairly singled out the woman.

As far as the drink for suspicion for adultery, it didn't sterilize them, but God would kill them if they were guilty.

The Bible says that women are to be submissive, not slaves to their husbands. Submission is a choice, and is willingly given to the husband (but not just any man).

I'm not sure where you got these examples, but I would recommend you read the Bible as a whole and consider it as such. As a woman, I am proud to follow the God of the Bible.

Ask yourself, "What is more important?"

If you hold a grudge against God, what will it get you? Isn't that what you are doing: Holding a grudge?

What is that called? It's called rebellion. You actually have a part in yourself that wants to hate God. And what you are doing is rebelling and hating Him.

Another thing that I want to draw your attention to is that all of us have that in us. That's what our human nature; the natural part of us we are born with, does. We all have this part of us that wants to hate God.

What God's Spirit does is make it possible to go along with God; to follow Him. And you are rebelling against that, seeing that your intended purpose is 'good'. When it's not good. In fact, that part of you is what damns people.

If I may give you some advice: Stop listening to that part of yourself. Your rebellion was well planned. It is fertilized by your resentment against God. You remind yourself to hate God, and you need to in order to carry on with your rebellion.

How do I know that you planned this rebellion? Because you told me that you stopped reading the Bible, stopped praying, and you told me the nature of your point in the rebellion: Women bashing.

Well, God isn't a Feminist. And God chose you out of the world. But if you continue to treat that like a cheap toy, you may end up getting worse things happening to you than has happened so far.

What you are doing is nothing new. There was a rebellion a long time ago and many times since. If God cares about you, He will teach you a lesson that you will never forget.

So what are you going to do?
