I was baptized in the Holy Spirit in 1995. From 1981 until then all I knew was salvation (fire insurance). In 1995 I decided to give Jesus everything and it was then that I was filled with the Power of the Holy Spirit. I speak with many Christians who say that it is not necessary. For me it was the greatest day of my life aside from confessing Jesus. Some will say that you received all the Holy Spirit you will get when you accepted Jesus but I am here to tell you that is bull. Christians, if you do not seek this most needed gift from God then it will be virtually impossible for you to make through the days that are ahead of us. I am not questioning your salvation if you have put you faith in Christ but encourage you to seek Gods best for you.

Those who are not Christians can post away. I am just glad your on here catching some truth. Faith comes by hearing and if you are on this site then you are hearing at least some truth.

From the answers posted so far I would say the answer to your question is Christian ignorance. In the book of Acts we see that the early believers did see the baptism in the Holy Spirit as distinct and subsequent to the new birth. The Acts 2 experience comes after the John 20 experience. Acts 8:4-25 clearly shows that this Baptism is not automatically received at the very beginning since we are told saved and baptized believers still had to have the apostles pray for them to receive the Spirit. In this passage we are also given a hint that there was some kind of evidence that satisfied everyone that the believers had received this Spirit baptism (an empowering for service [Lk 24:49] as opposed to the new life given by the Spirit at the new birth). The early Christians apparently knew when someone did not have the Spirit and when someone did. This must have been an objective rather than subjective test. When the Spirit was poured out at Cornelius house the brothers who went there knew the new believers had been baptized with the Spirit "FOR they heard them speaking in tongues and praising God" (Acts 4:26). The next question we must ask, though is why there are so many Christians who are so ignorant of the Scriptures. Have we done our part to preach and teach the baptism in the Holy Spirit?

OK. We are only hearing if the we are listening to the Holy Spirit. Since we are reading what you wrote.

And also that the seal of the Holy Spirit is given to everyone who is born again. That happens when person confesses with ones mouth Jesus Christ ones Lord & Savior & believes in ones heart his atonement for sins & that He raised from the dead. And us who believe in His resurrection will raise up whole like Him; body, soul & spirit. This is a creative miracle. A new spiritual birth. The person is no more a body soul & dead/blind spirit. But a whole new man. Still a corruptible body though until resurrection day complete.

The Holy Spirit is with everyone born of God. And will fill the baby Christian. And some people do receive the filling of the Holy Spirit when they are born again. And sometimes it is at a later time. So? That isn't bull. But there is much victory in the Christian's life when the Holy Spirit fills and person praises God in Spirit in Gods love. The feeling of acceptance & love is overpowering & the best 'high'. And also God heals us this way from the inside out.

To stacyflowerpark,
Baptism in water is symbolic of the new birth. It is an act of faith also and requires believing in ones heart Jesus Christ raised from the dead. You go down, you are washed clean by His redeeming blood, & you raise up whole, a new spiritual person in Christ, alive forevermore. You have eternal life in you in your new spiritman. But you need to wash in the Word. The water baptism is done in the Name of the Father, Son & Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is with you forever & will fill you up & will raise you up whole on resurrection day complete. When you are filled with the Holy Spirit this is the baptism that Jesus baptises with of fire & spirit. Fire represents the anointing on Pentecost. There was a vision of a fire above each head who was filled with the Holy Spirit. So they were all a candle of the Lord when filled with the Holy Spirit. This is having our lamps full of oil (anointing oil). This is the baptism of the Holy Spirit.

While we should preach that all men are commanded to repent and be baptized (Acts 2:38), adding any other requirement to salvation by grace becomes "works" in disguise. Even though numerous Scriptures speak of the importance of water baptism, adding anything to the work of the cross demeans the sacrifice of the Savior. It implies that His finished work wasn’t enough. But the Bible makes clear that we are saved by grace, and grace alone (Ephesians 2:8,9). Baptism is simply a step of obedience to the Lord following our repentance and confession of sin. Our obedience— water baptism, prayer, good works, fellowship, witnessing, etc.—issues from our faith in Christ. Salvation is not what we do, but Who we have: "He that has the Son has life" (1 John 5:12). See Acts 2:38

I believe that Christians do not seek the Baptism of the Holy Spirit because it not seen and preached as something with much importance. We who know better need to let them know that even Jesus Christ was baptised with the Holy Spirit and if he had need of the Holy Spirit how much more you and I.

Remember Luke 4:18 Jesus was anointed with the Holy Spirit. Then in Acts 10:38 'How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.'

So my friend we all need to be baptised in the Holy Spirit.

Ihave been told that we are not to seek gifts. By the baptism of the Holy Spirit Isuppose you mean the evedience of the presence of the Holy Spirit by speaking in tongues. Right? If I'm wrong please email me. This movement was started in the early 1900's at least the present day movement. THE bible speaks of people being saved and speaking in tounges and people being saved without speaking in tongues. Both recieved the Holy Spirit all of it.I,myself was reborn of water and of spirit. Paul speaks of the baptism of the Holy Spirit by thewashing(baptism) of the water of the word, reading, listening to the spoken word in church It's not that hard. There is alot more if you open your mind and heart to the teaching of the Holy Spirit. T4

There is very little being taught about the Holy Ghost today in the churches. Most Ministers don't know about the Holy Ghost today. They are like those in Acts who did not know about the Baptism of Jesus yet, but only John's. I am an Evangelist and many of the churches I go to today don't even have oil for anointing.

This is why many have not felt the power of the Holy Spirit, and why many think the gifts of the Holy Spirit no longer exist.

We don't experience what we don't believe.

I know they still exist, my children and my life are living examples of this truth.

I once was afraid of life, and yet afraid to die. Now through the truth I am not afraid to do either.

And I must say I love your saying "salvation (fire insurance). "

Most either just don't understand. Those who understand and choose not to pursue it I feel is out of fear. I have heard over and over that we are vessels to be filled with the Holy Spirit. Usually the first thing that comes to mind is a vase or something. I ask you to consider the fact that a ship is also a vessel and then the Holy Spirit fills us, he fills our sails and helps us travel in the direction he has for us. I pray that we all try to trim our sails so that we can travel in the direction he leads us.

Only AFTER you accept Jesus in faith as your Lord and Saviour, does Christ Himself send the Holy Spirit to indwell you. The Holy Spirit ministers to you, gives you atr least one spiritual gift, and interfaces between you and God the Father.

I am baptised by the spirit it is the best. Water baptism is an acknowledgement that you have chosen christ as your saviour, baptism in the holy spirit is a total immersion into christ and the holy spirit, it is a symbol that you mean to be a true believer not just a sunday morning go to church ten go home and do whatever person.
