I have used both - a whisk or fork and have never noticed a difference.

It really depends on what you are making. If you are not going to use an egg beater you should use a "whip" you know, the wires that look like a balloon. When you whip eggs, it is usually to get volume out of them.

It depends, if you are whipping them into stiff peaks it is better to use a mixer, however it will take some time using a whisk, but it can be done.

I don't know what you mean by "choppy tasting", but whatever you're making just won't be as fluffy and light. It will be a bit heavier.

Just stir for longer and you'll be fine. A whisk works well, too.
