My 5 year old brother came to me this morning and woke me up.
"MYA! guess what? I learned what I have to do to stay away from hell, cause I don't like that place. I prayed to God and said that I was sorry for all of the bad things I did. Now I get to go to heaven not hell cause I really don't like it there. Hey,you should do that too.Oh,and wake up. I'm hungry." With that he marched out of my room.
Despite the fact that I'm a really bad morning person,it was cute.
So hows your day going so far R&S?

He asked my father on his own. We have no idea where he got the concept of hell. we didn't think he was old enough to make that decision.

I would probably tell him there is no hell, so that he can't be so miserably scared and terrified. Can't you see he is frightened and full of guilty? He is going to grow up into an insecure adult, and every time he does something bad, like spilling juice on the table, he will remember he is going to hell, and he is going to hate himself for that, and his self-esteem will be trashed.

Please, take this hell-stuff out of his mind, before it is too late! There is no such a thing! At least, I am sure you've never been there, so you can't tell him there is.

I would never tell my kids about hell, geez...

Peace!

That's funny. It's wonderful how he just did it and believes and everything's fine. No questioning, he belives that God's going to take care of him...what a good example he's being for us!

It is very sad that a 5 year old has already been given the guilt trip of that lie about hell-fire.

I am shuddering at the mental abuse done to the child. Children should be left to make their own decision on the religion issue. Otherwise it's just brainwashing.

He's 5! He believes in god because your parents do. That's the only reason.

My grandma scared me into the faith when I was about that age too. I still have scars.
