Each parent must decide for themself what they will consider reading to their children.
Gal. 6:5 -
Christian parents remember their God-given responsiblity to teach their children wholesome material.
Especially are Christian parents told by God to teach their children about him and spiritual matters. Wise parents will not teach their children information which is not in line with Bible truth. (Deuter. 6:6-10.) Proverbs 22:6.
“And you, fathers, do not be irritating your children, but go on bringing them up in the discipline and mental-regulating of Jehovah.” (Ephesians 6:4)
For example - books such as Harry Potter would not be in line with Bible principles, since such information involves spiritism, which Jehovah condemns. Christians can have no share in spiritistic practices. (Deuter. 18:10-13.
Gal. 5:19-23: "Now the works of the flesh are manifest, and they are fornication, uncleanness, loose conduct, idolatry, practice of *spiritism, enmities, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, contentions, divisions, sects, envies, drunken bouts, revelries, and things like these. As to these things I am forewarning you, the same way as I did forewarn you, that those who practice such things will not inherit God’s kingdom.
On the other hand, the fruitage of the spirit is love, joy, peace, long-suffering, kindness, goodness, faith, 23 mildness, self-control. Against such things there is no law."

Yes, they can. Whether or not they will is a conscience matter for each family to decide on it's own.
In my case, my parents (who raised me as a Witness) allowed me to watch cartoons that featured popular fairy tales. But around the age of 5 or 6, I decided on my own that any fairy tale depicting witches, magic, or spiritism was not for me and that to watch it would bother my own conscience.
My husband and I have decided that, when we have children of our own, we will not allow such questionable movies or stories in our home. But that is a decision based on our own consciences, and we do not try to force our viewpoint on any other Witnesses.

Fairy Tales, yes.
Most have a moral lesson.
It's up to each individual family head to decide.
In my case my husbnd does not read to the children
or grd-children. I do.
And I carefully chose what I do and do not read to the baby.
(my own r grown adults now)
I have my 1st grd-child. Her mother is my dghtr.
The baby's earthly father is not a Witness,
and we have spoken about how I am raising her.
And he is in complete agreement,
in the things that I do & do not expose her young mind to.
i.e. the movie Curious George;
she just loves that lil' monkey,
but the movie is Absolutely Horrendous!!!
the man in the yellow hat,
goes somewhere to retrive an idol.
In the Bible, every single mention of idols is in a bad light.
They r bad to have, etc...leads away from the Christ.
1 of my sisters, I told about the movie, she said;
"No Way would her husband let their son see this movie"
and they are NOT J's W's.
I do pay more than the usual attention
to what she is exposed to.
"Even Disney movies."
I have come to realize they are NOT all good for children.
Aladdin- NO;
Bambi-YES;
Beauty & the Beast-NO;
Cars-YES. etc...
She owns a book called "Learn for the Great Teacher,"
its designed FOR children,
for their young minds to become more attuned to Jesus' teachings.
MUCH BETTER STORIES AT BED TIME.
I believe she should be given good & decent material b4 bed...state of dreaming.
I mean who?! in their right mind would let a child see a horror movie,
or read a scary book @ bedtime?!?!?!
Or most especially, Anything that goes Against what Jehovah or Jesus said to abstain from--stay away from.
i.e. A different sister (I have 7) says she's Christian and yet she lets her kids watch shows that deal w/ false gods & sorcery. She watches the shows also. Wouldn't u call that "polluting ur minds w/ things Not of God?"
Like I said;
I pay more than the usual attention to what she is exposed to.

I was brought up as one of Jehovah's Witnesses and brought my children up the same way. I was read fairy tales and read them myself as a child. My children were very disinterested in fairy tales even at a very young age, so although they were a part of our family library, they got little use.

That is for each parent to decide what they will read to their child...that is a matter of their conscience. When my siblings and i where younger many of those stories where read to us, by us, or we watched the movie...like the Snow White, Cinderella, Pinocchio, Beauty and the Beast, the Little Mermaid, etc.

Yes, each individual and family head among Jehovah's Witnesses decides for himself regarding what entertainment he and his family will choose.
In the United States, many or most Witnesses consider such "fairy tales" to be comparable to fables which can be used to teach important lessons to children.

As others have already pointed out it is a decision made by individual family heads. Our children had them read to them.

yes they can, of course they can, I was brought up as a JW but was an avid reader of all those stories, they are not total freaks you know, if you have any questions about what they can and cannot do ask a JW, don't look it up on the internet as usually the information is incorrect or distorted, I was JW for 22 years, I no longer practise but that was my own personal choice.
