Save the dates cards should be sent to out of town guests and to everyone if it's a destination wedding 9-12 months out.
If your guests are mostly local or close to you, Save the dates are not necesary.
Good luck

I'm sending out invitations now so the guests can save money for the trip as the closest person is an 8 hour drive away. The location is also at a hot spot for vacationers and its in June 2008, so I have a few hotels that have rooms blocked off for our guests. When they RSVP back that they can make it, we send out a reminder magnet to put on their fridge and are going to send out a reminder postcard about two months prior to the wedding.
A bit different from what usually happens, which is people would send out a STD now, and then send out the invitations 3-4 months prior to the wedding.

No u can send the save the dates in the invites right around christmas would be a neat idea along with a engagement photo of u and your soon to be hubby. that would be great and also if u are doing out of town invites include a list of hotels and ask them to pick the one and u will get a good price if u can get more than 2 couples to stay and they give fantastic discounts for wedding parties and guests so let them pick and they u make the arrangemnt.

Send Save the Date cards/magnets between 9 months and 6 months before the wedding date...lean towards the longer period of time if your wedding is a Destination Wedding, where guests will need to make special travel arrangements.
Formal (Not meaning formal style, but written) wedding invitations should always follow Save the Date cards. Invites should be mailed between 2 months and 1 month before the wedding. Any sooner than 2 months, and people will forget...any later than 1 month and you will run into problems with getting proper headcounts for your vendors.
Good luck

If its a destination wedding or there are out of towners or if you are having it on a three day weekend, send Save the Dates. You can include all the tacky details you don't want on your pretty invitations like where you are registered, places they can stay, a website you may have for your wedding, the website of the place where they are having the reception, maybe a map etc etc. Send them about 6 months ahead of time. Nothing less then 4 months. Congrats! and Good luck!

Save The Date cards are generally for holiday weekends, but if you want to send them then great, I have gotten Save the Date cards about 6-9 months in advance, also since it is an early summer wedding, it may be a good idea so people can plan their vacations accordingly.
Good Luck!

You should definitely do Save the Dates, especially if youre inviting people out of town who you dont talk to often. I think now is a good time to send them. Anyone who is serious about coming to your wedding will have enough time to take vacation and plan the trip.
A list of hotels is helpful. Even better, a block of rooms at a hotel at a discount (contact the hotel and tell them you are having a wedding).

I strongly suggest sending out Save the Date cards as this is prime vacation time and if you really want certain people to be there then you need to make sure they plan their schedules so they can. I would maybe suggest setting up a wedding website through the KNOT and having all the hotel info on it and refer to that on the save the date cards...and I would send the save the date cards out by the first of the year and maybe tot hose you are comfortable with even in your christmas cards...try making them into magnets so they can stick them on their fridges to remind them through the months also...try www.vistaprint.com for some good prices and you can even upload your own design with say maybe a pic of the two of you! Good luck and enjoy...this is one of the best times in your life!

I would send them now. I can tell you that I have stuff on my calendar right now - for next June. Not a lot - but some.
It's a bummer when somebody says - "Oh - I'm away at camp that weekend" - or whatever - and they've commited elsewhere. This way - they can mark their calendar - and commit to your wedding now - and there will be none of that.
Personally - I love and hate getting the save the date cards. I love it - 'cause if it's a wedding I really want to attend - I won't book anything at that time - and I'll get to go for sure. But - I also hate it - 'cause if it's a wedding I don't care to attend - well - I have no excuse.

Send the save the date cards at least 9 months ahead,
unless you are reserving a block of hotel rooms locally for them with their RSVP, which must be set back at least 6 months in advance, if this is the case.
(You get better rooms for your guests, at a fraction of the cost and they'll be lodged together in one section of the hotel. This requires a deposit, and hotel chain that does this.) Hope you have the best, and most awed wedding of the season! (they pay for their rooms by dividing the total cost between them--the collection should be done by your greeter (one of your bridesmaids) , the greeting of the guests,
the handing out of the room keys, the adding of the deposit
to the total cost is at your discretion!)

I would send the "Save the Date" cards out at least three months in advance, a bit earlier if they are far away from you.
Any more than three months, and they are likely to forget the entire event, until it is upon them again. And by then, they may want to do other things. Three months is a good advance time.
