I'll never understand, with all the problems American society faces, cops radar traffic. C'mon, who are you protecting? People flash lights to oncoming traffic to warn that you're there so other drivers can slow down until they pass you, so you aren't catching reckless drivers. Really, how can you feel good about yourself sitting in the median radaring people during rush hour as they try to get to work? I realize sitting in the comfort of your air conditioned car is more appealing than hitting the streets and doing some real work. I just have no idea how you face yourself everyday. You took a vow to protect people; instead, you sit there, spinelessly, with radar gun in hand, while crime goes on around you.

Bravo ....

Your thoughts?

I did not get a ticket, just saw a cop radaring traffic this morning during rush hour. If you spent more time catching reckless drivers (not those going 9 miles over the speed limit) ... but those leaving bars, or those tailgaiting, you MIGHT actually be improving something.
As for being raped or whatever other useless anaology was given, I did not say police weren't necessary. I said they shouldn't be spending so much time behind the radar gun.... seems many of you don't / can't read.
Feeling safe with cops around? LOL .. yeah .. the last time I had to call the police for being stalked (by phone) they were unable to do anything about it. The stalker (being done on phone via computer) was smarter than the entire police department.... that's super comforting!
As for feeling safe? Get a license to conceal and carry ... the police are much too busy radaring bumper to bumper traffic.

Your tax dollars at work.

KEV.. you are a great example of cops today .. you pay no attention. I have already said I didn't get a ticket.. I saw a cop radaring rush hour traffic. I have never gotten one speeding ticket my whole life.
But thanks, ever so much for you words of "wisdom" .. I'll be sure to file them somewhere important.

My thoughts are this is selective prosecution. It is legal - but it doesn't have to be moral. The justice system says nothing about morality and it's a good thing, because it has none. Easy way to raise money for the county/city. Yes, it slows down the traffic. Does it work? - absolutely not! Because the traffic will still speed up when you aren't there!! It's all about the money you can grab while sitting there.

And before the naysayers attack - I have NEVER been ticketed in a radar stop. I just think it is a huge waste of tax payer resources for cops to spend hours parked in the grass holding a radar gun.

I dont know where you're from and the procedures that are used there, but you need to think about this more clearly.

If the police were to give up on traffic handling, can you imagine the amount of accidents that there will be? The police actually chasing the offenders is enough of a detterrent, but even with the idea that they exist on the roads makes all drivers be aware that if they speed or drive recklessly there is the possibility that they will get in trouble.

Now if there were no cops on the roads, no one would worry about speed limits and other rules, and do as they please, therefore creating huge accidents and other problems. People over 60 will not take to the roads in fear that they will be killed by some drunk driving 20-something showing off to his girlfriend on the highway.

I think you need to think things through more carefully before you post a question next time.

They are doing their job, they are slowing down speeders. Thats it plain and simple. It does not matter if they catch anyone that day, if it slows down the speed of traffic 5mph that day then they did their job.

Cops don't care if you flash your lights to let the other person know that there is radar up head, because it slows down traffic, again getting their job done.

In Virginia we had land, air and speed. What is was, was people were calling in and complaning about the speed on the major highways and how they were afraid for their lives because people were going to fast. So what did our state police do, they set up radar, in the air and on land. It was announce on the news when they would be doing this. Yes they pulled many people over, if you saw one person pulled over, you were sure to see another, and another down the road. Did it work? Yes the speed on these major highways droped, and the police did their job.

awe, somebody's mad they got a speeding ticket.

I hear this same chit every time i write a ticket to someone who thinks they don't deserve it.

I will say the same thing to you I say to everyone else.
"well (sir or ma'am), if you obey the traffic laws you would not be in this situation now would you"

It's accually kind of funny that you say that, becuase when I sit outside a bar and ask people not to drive I get told to go catch speeders.
on a side note.
I will intentionally go to a high volume traffic area when I have to write a report or do some other time consuming thing so I am controlling the speed of traffic without accually doing anything.

If I don't catch reckless drivers with RADAR, how do you account for the three DWI arrests I made last week based on RADAR speed stops? I have stopped cars going more than 100 MPH with RADAR, I guess that guy wasn't reckless either.

Also, RADAR during rush hour doesn't work well due to the volume of traffic (most people can't really speed then anyway).

Anyway, I suggest you try slowing down and you won't get so many speeding tickets.

chick, from a fan of most your questions, let me create a scenario here.
You know in most of the big boxing movies when a really good boxer is getting creamed, what do the people yell out when they see the boxer is getting the crap beat out of them???
"STAY DOWN"
I know you probably wont, but your too good a player here, and i dont want to see this get any worse. Sincerely.

Most of them fear doing real work, thats why they have these cushion jobs. I see it all the time. Many people sent here from Chicago in central Illinois the last couple of years. They have actually reduced the forces around here. Bank robberies at a record high (unsolved), murders, rapes, drug dealing all go unnoticed. Read about citizen complaints of the crime here, but noone looks at the real problem..........the police that you are refering to.

Almost four times as many people die in traffic deaths than homicides. I'll take the cop with the radar gun, thanks.

i completely agree with you. where were the cops helping me when i was getting stalked. where were the cops when i got raped. where were the cops when my dad beat me up repeatedly. oh i know. pulling someone over for going 5 over. nice job guys, glad you feel like you're making a difference. and it's not like i didn't ask for help from officers, i tried, but i was TURNED AWAY. that's right, the cop told me everything was my fault and he wasn't going to help.
