Im 19 and I moved to NYC to attend college. The plan was to go to school, live by myself for a year, and work and my mother pay for the apartment. But then my oldest brother, who lives in nyc who lived with his girl, broke up with her, and now my mother wants me to live with my brother in a one bedroom apartment. She said if i dont, then I would have to pay for everything. I didnt sign up for this, and my mother lives all the way in hong kong, and I have been taking care of myself and it has been really hard looking for apartments and dealing with financial aid, work, etc. I just graduated from high school and its been overwhleming being an adult, and i dont want to sound spoiled, but i really dont want to live with my brother and i didnt sign up for this.....Is my mother right? I mean if i woulld have known that I would have to live with him, then i would have went to an actual college somewhere else. help.

just to let you know, its nyc so the rent is crazzyy here. and i dont want to live in the ghetto, and for some reason its hard to find roommates that would want to live with a 19 year old girl with no steady job.....so its a lil bit harder.

The lessons on becoming an adult involve making sacrifices and making compromises. My Mother didn't pay for one single cent of my living expenses and college, therefore I did it all by myself. I know you are working your a$$ off, but be greatful for what she is willing to pay for, and either move in with your brother, or find yourself a roommate and pay your own rent.

You basically said it yourself. Rent in NYC is crazy...why should your Mom have to pay two crazy rents when she could pay only one? I think that is reasonable, and not being a *****.

Telling you the truth it would be more financially easy for your mom if you moved in with your brother. I know it sucks but sometimes life is like that and you have to do things you don't want. Look at it this way well you are still in NY and you still get the same situation you wanted not the living environment but everything else is to your wish. And you don't "sign up for things" with your family, honestly that sounded really bad. Be happy you got to go to NY and help your mom by living with your brother. Thats an expensive city that YOU choose to live and its not fair to ask your mom to pay for your apartment and not even take into consideration that moving in with your brother would help the situation. I think you need to get over this believe me when i say that there will worser things than this in your life so be happy your still in NY, get to live there especially and go to school which is in general what you wanted. And also it not right to ask if your mom is a *****. that is not cool. Im sorry to be so frank but the fact that you would write something like that lets people know what kind of person you are, disrespectful and inconsiderate.

You are an adult and if you dont like the conditions set out by your mother then take care of yourself.

Listen to your mom if you want to live there. If not, take care of the expense yourself and like you said and like I know, NY is very expensive. Oh, you shouldn't curse your mother by calling her a*****! Shame on you!

Part of being an adult is helping your family.
Part of being a child, is only to be helped.
