According to Genesis 2:17, "But as for the tree of the knowledge of good and bad you must not eat from it, for in the day you eat from it you will positively die.” God said that if Adam and Eve ate from the tree of knowledge or good and bad, they would die. it doesn't mean in a day literally. What it saying I will explain. Remember that a day in Jehovah's eyes is as a thousand years. An we know that no human ever lived up to a full thousand years and past. If they did, they would be living into the next day and not as pronounced by God in Genesis 2:17. The longest man who ever lived was Methuselah and he lived for 963 yrs. He never lived up to a full 1000 yrs. It's found in the Genesis 5:27, "So all the days of Methuselah amounted to nine hundred and sixty-nine years and he died." Even Adam who is the first human only lived for 130 yrs(Genesis 5:4)

One more note. Lamech was the first human to have 2 wives.(Genesis 4:19, "And Lamech proceeded to take two wives for himself.

this is Genesis 2:17 of the oldest translation from the original text into English (Tyndale Bible ) no reason i just thought you might be interested
This was said to Adam even before God created Eve.

2:17

But of the tre of knowlege of good and badd se that thou eate not: for even ye same daye thou eatest of it thou shalt surely dye.

Genesis 5 verses 3: 4: 5

And when Adam was an hundred and thyrty yere old he begat a sonne after hys lycknesse and symilytude: and called hys name Seth.
4 And the dayes of Adam after he begat Seth were eyght hundred yere and begat sonnes and doughters.
5 and all the dayes of Adam which he lyved were .ix. hundred and .xxx. yere and then he dyed.

Genesis 5:27

27 And all the dayes of Methusala were .ix. hundred .lxix yere and than he dyed.

unlike the KJV which was a translation of the Roman Catholic Bible Tynsdale translated Genesis from the Hebrew at that time in English history the Church and the law only allowed the Bible to be written in Latin and no one out side the clergy were allowed to know what was written in it
Tyndale was eventually caught tortured and burned at the stake for makeing the scripture available to the masses
like i said i only thought you might be interested and i`m not arguing the rights or wrongs of anything

In the original Hebrew language, the verses says "In the day you eat of it, dying you shall die." It refers to the beginning of a dying process which eventually leads to dead. This is no different then what you see in any person today. The moment a child is born, their body begins the processes that will eventually lead to their physical death.

But there is more involved that just physical death. The reason that physical death eventually comes is because of spiritul death. When Adam disobeyed God, the spirit within him died, and his connection with God was lost. That death was what started the process that evetually lead to physical death. In the day he ate, he died spiritually which lead to physically death. In dying, he died.

It is an interest observation that none of the OT patriarchs as listing as having lived past the 1,000 year mark. But hopefully you have done the math, and realized the the oldest person, Methuselah, did not die because of his age. Rather, he was drown in the flood. (Or at least he died in the year of the flood).

You should not that human bodies fall apart steadily over time, and even someone who had never been ill or damaged themselves in any way would simply break down at around 130 years at most.

There are people who do live (approximately) this long, but they are effectively mutants.

In any case, more than 150 years is just impossible with an unmodified human being. Taking Methuselah as a real case is just silly. Such myths formed in a time when people rarely lived to 50.

Adam and Eve did experience death in that moment. The death that God was referring to is not a physical one. Yes, everyone will experience that, and 930 years later, Adam did die. He lived longer than 130 years. The death that they experienced was spiritual. It is the very consequence of any sin, no matter how great or large. Sin causes spiritual death because we are taken out of the perfect communion with God.

The extent to which believers can twist the words of their holy books never ceases to amaze me. I know it takes some mental contortions to justify belief in the first place, but the ability really goes into high gear when reinterpreting and twisting scripture.

For those who are claiming that the story says that Adam and Eve were not mortal until they ate of the fruit of the Tree of Knowledge - you are wrong. Now that Adam and Eve had the knowledge of the gods, they were expelled from the garden >>before they could eat of the Tree of Life<<, become immortal, and complete their journey of becoming equal to the gods. Apparently the god club likes to keep their membership exclusive.

You should try reading your book some time.

Yes; this is a correct interpretation. You're on the right track.
That is also why Hosea 6:2 refers to our timeperiod as probably being the time in which the promised Messiah will come. Each "day" is a period of 1,000 years. This mindset can also be used to say that G-d actually used 6,000 years to create the earth, as opposed to 24-hour periods.

It DID mean a day. Part of them died that day. The unexplainable connection they had with God, died that day.

A day in Jehovas eyes, HAVE YOU NEVER said that "this is taking FOREVER????!!!! " that's what He was saying, time draggs slowly to me.

If you can't take it literally in this part, then you just get to pick and choose whether you like this passage of not, and if y ou don't, then you can just decide to not "take it literally."

You're on the right track. They died spiritually immediately, and eventually died physically as well.

The spiritual restoration is only by believing in Jesus Christ.
