Check out my last question.
If believers claim that god is benevolent, why are all acts of god so malevolent?

2007-08-14 03:07:55 · 12 answers · asked by Anonymous in Society & Culture Religion & Spirituality

If the universe was created by an all-powerful being, that being is not all-good.
If God is both all-powerful and all-good, why is there so much suffering in the world?
Why does God inflict earthquakes, floods, famines, and the Black Death upon us?
Why does he give small children cancer?
Why does he make life so grindingly miserable for so many?
Why does he arrange for millions of us to end our lives horrendously scarred—in many cases both physically and psychologically crippled—by the world he created for us?
This hardly sounds like the behavior of a supremely compassionate and loving father figure, does it?
Surely, there’s overwhelming evidence that the universe is not under the control of a limitlessly powerful and benevolent character.

Christians are just like you. Whether you want to admit it or not. We all start as a little piece of iron found in the ground. Some of us become scissors, some rods; but we're all still iron. Wisdom or intelligence tells us that some times to win a battle, we have to go back and make ourselves stronger. If you force yourself to be strong all at once, then when something stronger than you've ever faced comes. YOU WILL NOT BE PREPARED. Your response, you will run and try to face it later. The answer to your question, the same concept. God is malevolent (big word from a broad mind- you I mean) to make us benevolent. Have you ever noticed how, when a child comes from an abusive home, they seem more than anyone else to know how the world should run. Their kind, understanding, credible. and then the rest of the world that doesn't run that way makes them angry by casting them out. They turn antisocial and angry just like everyone else. I'm not saying to abuse your children, don't get me wrong; but people who are weak, have certain qualities that the rest of us just don't. When we then search for strength, we turn to fear of not being strong enough to survive. So when we see weak people, we see the weakness in ourselves and to get rid of it, we make fun of them. Not knowing that we are making fun of ourselves. Sorry to put this like this; but much like you and this question. If you really want to know the answer, go spend some time with some Christians that are open to your beliefs and be open to theirs

If you want a question answered (albeit, such an infantile one) you must be prepared to answer questions yourself. That being said, are all acts of God really "malevolent" as you claim? Even giving you the benefit of the doubt that SOME MAY be, which ones are? Does God "commit" more heinous acts against man, or does man do so to one another.

Ok, the shoe's on the other foot now. Ignore my Qs, as I predict you will. I only hope you have the courage to consider what I have said.

God has never wished evil on the people of this earth but that all would repent and turn from their sins. Yes, God destroyed many nations and people in the Old Testament because of their continual evil practices. Would you let a pedophile continue to abuse your child? You would probably kill him if you found him in the act. So why is it so hard for you to understand the benevolent and awesome love of our Heavenly Father to care for His children?

"Acts of God" is an expression invented by insurance companies and spread by journalists.
Hurricanes, mud-slides, earthquakes, etc are NOT acts of God.
They are very often the result of man pillaging the earth.
In truth, God's influence on the present earthly scene is quite faint.
1 John 5:19 states:
"the whole world is lying in the power of the wicked one."
We should put the blame where it belongs.

Just read the buy-bull and you'll see plenty of malevolence. As for Jane's response, yes I would punish my children but not for eternity.

God is loving but He is a Father. He cant allow His children to do wrong and go unpunished.
God bless

God is both kind and loving, but as a father wouldn't you pusish your children that needed it?

He does love us, but He is also one to not get on His bad side.
