I think it's important to remember that tolerance isn't the same as acceptance. To tolerate someone, you quietly say nothing though you inwardly approve.

So to be INtolerant, you would not only not accept a person or idea, you would be verbal about it. It's inferred that you would also DO something about not liking the person or idea - such as spreading your dislike of them to friends and family and working to actively remove that person or idea from your midst.

Well, based on the context in which it is used today?
-- The act disagreeing with the beliefs of another person or group.

If you state that you believe homosexuality is wrong, based on the Bible, you are called intolerant. Regardless of whether or not you still treat the people with respect and love and true tolerance. Simply stating it is wrong is called intolerance.

It's easier to define tolerance - maintaining peace and respect with someone who is different from you.

To me intolerance is akin to predudice. It is usually used to reffer to a class of people but it generally means being unwilling to accept the existance of something you find offensive. I for one am intolerant of child rapists. They should just die.
Intolerance differs from prejudice in that it is an unwillingness to accept the existance as opposed to a bias against something/someone. I may have a prejudice against lazy people and not want to hire them but I tolerate them at the pool and flying kites in the park.

Y!A is the biggest place of intolerance. Because it's easy to hide who you are and change accounts, you can bash another's point of view and call others names. This place is the most hate-filled area I've ever been to.

Medically it an is extreme sensitivity to a food or drug; or an allergy.

Otherwise, it is the state of being intolerant, which is the state of being unable or indisposed to tolerate, endure or bear something, what ever it is; or

the state of being not tolerant (except in the case of hangnails); or

being close-minded about new or different ideas; or

being indisposed to tolerate contrary opinions or beliefs; or

being impatient of dissent or opposition; or

denying or refusing the right of private opinion or choice in others; or

of being inclined to persecute or suppress dissent.

There, I hope that helps.

Unacceptance of varied outlooks, ways of life, etc. Not to be confused with dislike.

It isn't intolerant to dislike, say, the lifestyle a gay person lives. It is intolerant to limit that person's lifestyle because you don't like it.

Refusing to deny your principles and truth for the acceptance of others. It's a good intolerance. Whatever Hollywood idiot came up with the "preach tolerance" mantra was a real idiot

I sometimes watch Secular Television shows. The sometimes nasty "South Park" show did an episode about Tolerance versus Acceptance that was just superlative.

Anybody see it? The kids get sent to "Tolerance Camp" for objecting to their Teacher's intentionally obnoxious homo behavior.
