Think about it.... these people live by convincing others how horrible they are and that they have to give to the church to change it. Its actually easy to understand because they really only have to work a couple hours a week while guilting everyone around them to give them cash and making everyone else think they're doing the right thing to get into this mythical place called heaven.
Its really despicable human behavior.

The beginning of traveling "preachers". Jesus was the first but never asked for anything. When he would go to a town people would feed him and his disciples give them a place to sleep and repair or replace their garments.
As time went on - especially during the plagues of Europe - people would give money if they had it because most of the food was tainted as well as the homes and clothing.
Modern "preachers" 1815 to current requested "donations" for traveling to towns without a pastor and would set up make shift churches (Tent preachers) in new settlements. To get them to stay they would make a "communal" building which was used as town hall, school, and sunday services. At that time - just like the traveling doctors - the pastor was given a home to live in and food was provided by the town. As the town grew it was easier to "tithe" to the "church" to help keep it going and for the pastor to pay his own bills, so to speak. The teacher was paid as well out of the money collected. As more people moved west the same thing was the norm.
I have noticed now though, that there are more pastors holding "meetings" paid for by the religious groups and drivng nicer cars and living in very nice homes. Wearing expensive jewelry and clothes and staying in high priced hotels even in the poorest of nations. Yet they say the money is going to help spread the "word" and to help "heal" those nations and feed the hungry. How, when their homes are $1 million or more, the cars are bently's and such, suits are Armani, and they eat high on the hog, and fly in personal jets or first class where ever they go. Sorry, but organized religion is nothing but a money machine anymore. If you are truely called to God to do His work then live like he made his own son live and do it humbly and by only your necessities. Do not use a deity's Name to get what you want but live by the teachings.

I will think like Christian because I'm Buddhist. Why did you prepare the clergy with parasites, it is not appropriate for priest. Why the clergy ask for money, these are the answers:
- Church get the money from salary which pay by Christendom but sometime church has much more expense and cannot ask for Christendom. What do you think to whom he can ask for the money?
- Church do like community servicer for everyone in the remote area without the money request.
- The clergies who work in the church have no job because they give their life for Christ but in the daily life priests have to eat, go somewhere. get on the bus something but they have no money to pay , how can they pay the expense accept he came from the rich .
- There are no religion if everyone think like you. How can you think about your question????

I happen to be a minister in my church. We don't get paid, so I work in the computer field to feed my family. It is a bit stressful in that my commitments to my daily occupation prevent me from helping people as much as I would like to.
But it has its positive sides as well. Since I am not "paid" to be the pastor, the whole congregation has to pitch in and support each other and do the visiting and helping etc. And since I am in the workforce, I can relate to the rest of the members.
Apostle Paul defends the right of a someone who is serving spiritually to be supported materially. But then he goes on to say that he gives up this right in order to be more effecting and not to put any obstacle in the way of his ministry.

Our pastor lives in a modest home. Drives a used car. His salary is less than most first year teachers. Part of our offerings go to various charities. The rest pays the light bill, heating and cooling, supplies, and rent. We see financials for the Church every month. With all the work he does, I wish we could afford to pay him more.

A minister of a congregation has a lot of responsibilities that couldn't adequately be covered if he also had to spend 40 hours a week earning a living. They are provided for by the church who asked them to serve that role.

They have day jobs. They are out in the community helping those less fortunate. In the meantime, we as Christians who are fortunate enough, donate money to help pay for the upkeep of our places of worship and to help community programs that benefit those less fortunate than us.
I know, what a bunch of selfish jerks we are.

Because many humans are silly enough to pay money in "donations" that they wouldn't in "charges".
Because they aren't legally required but rather morally obliged to pay the money, they seem much more willing.
Silly naked monkeys...
