It confirms religious law to be stupid.
The reason the western countries are no longer messed up is because they are postchristian countries. Back when they were based on Christian morals (in a time we call the Dark Ages) they were just as messed up as the Islamic countries are now, maybe even more so because there weren't any secular concepts like human rights in more powerful countries.

Fair observation.
I mean, how can one deny the fact that where Islamic law reigns, so also does poverty and illiteracy (see UNDP Middle East Report). All this inspite of incredible oil wealth.
The failed regimes just blame the kufr (non-muslims) and use their malase as a rally cry against some manufactured enemy.
Its funny when I hear people say "oh poverty creates the problem". This of course ignores the fact that its Islamic culture in the first place that creates the poverty!
Furthermore, since when do impoverished Hindus or Budhists (of which there are millions) resort to suicide bombing or all the other Islamist violence we see today. Theres no such correlation at all!
THOR: How does copying the works of the greeks count as "the center of ANYTHING". However, lets suppose we could agree on what consitutes a "center" of some great progressive civilization...how does this prove that Islam cant be a problem today?
After all, their conquests were all by the sword, its not like the Romans gave the Constantinoble or the Christians gave them Jerusalem...they invaded and conquered, AND THEY DID SO FOR ALLAH, FROM AN EXPLICT RELIGIOUS MOTIVE.
Why is Yugoslavia such a mess (the region where ww1-ww2 was sparked)...was it not the Ottoman Muslim ivasion and conquest of the region, the subjigation and enslavement, the division they created?

It confirms that extreme religion should not be a part of government. And I would extend that to a full separation of church and state.
Shariah law is evil and inhumane. It calls for death (some countries use stoning) against adulterers, homosexuals, and punishments against converts away from Islam.
So much for living in the twenty-first century.

But on a serious note, you will not find Islam in its true and correct form implemented anywhere in the world today. Otherwise it is a lovely system of governance. Strongly recommend you to watch a movie: Islam, Empire of Faith. Its main topic is Islamic history and is an introduction to Islamic states in thep ast. Shows also the decline of Muslims and if one is a student of religion and history one can easilt figure out that the greatest cause of decline was letting go of Islamic values.

Not necessarily true. There were times where Islamic world was on the top and the so called "west" was in the Dark ages. It has nothing to do with religion. All that is happening now is cultural poverty. After colonization a lot of people in the colonized world were left with the impression that the west was evil and their education was not worth studying. This has left more than 2/3s of the world in darkness.

You're getting cause and effect mixed up.
Sharia Law has arisen in countries that were already technologically behind and generally filthy places.
Afterall, in a country like that even inefficient and crude systems of law can make an improvement.... More refinement is needed to manage countries that have already started to get their act together.

Bismillahi Rahmani Rahim - In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Actually, the reverse is true. The predominantly Muslim countries that are "messed up" either utilize western methods of law (due to having been victims of colonization), or they pay lip service to Sharia'ah while actually ruling according to the whims of despotic rulers. If they were truly ruling according to Sharia'ah, they would be among the best of countries.
As for countries that rule according to man-made laws, I have one thing to say: The O.J. Simpson trial.
I pray that Allah guides you to that which is best in this world and the next. Ameen.

Why? You believe in one way of life and these people believe in another. Why is it that you are right and any other way of living is wrong? Who are you to judge? Who gave you authority.
