The causes are a hyperactive media who need something to bring readers in, gvmt funded 'scientist' who need to keep scaring people to keep getting more tax dollars for further 'research', and the effect is a scared populous who believe that man can influence the climate, and believe that gvmt can find the solution to all of lives problems.
For good information about "global warming", read Michale Michael Crichton's book, 'State of Fear'. It's a good read, and unlike Algores movie, doesn't have to show animated polar bears.

Well I believe global warming as it is called is just a natural cycle that the earth has always gone through. Contrary to popular belief in the history of the earth C02 levels have risen after temperature levels have and are actually delayed by several hundred years. If C02 and other green house gases were to blame for global warming the warming would be happening in the upper atmosphere about 10 kilometers up but most of the warming is happening at ground level. Of all the warming that has happened in the last 120 years most of it happened before 1940 and during the postwar economic boom temperatures began to fall and didn't begin to rise again until the economic recession in the 1970's. Animals and bacteria give off more C02 than humans. Volcanoes give off more C02 than humans. The ocean by far gives off more C02 than humans.
Do some research and draw your own conclusions.

It looks as though we don't know the exact cause as of yet. Allot of guessing and that's what science is the best guess until its ruled out and then on to the next guess . Same with the effects kind of a wait and see situation with that .
I do know one thing global warming hasn't pulled mankind together . We are not working together on this this situation .

I just stumbled over this site from EPA
http://www.epa.gov/climatechange/
It's a site with tons of information (b t w I like to link to sites run under the U.S. government as there is no way Global Warming deniers can say I'm using biased info that way)
If you choose the site "State of knowledge" it says:
"Scientists know with virtual certainty that:
* Human activities are changing the composition of Earth's atmosphere. Increasing levels of greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide (CO2) in the atmosphere since pre-industrial times are well-documented and understood.
* The atmospheric buildup of CO2 and other greenhouse gases is largely the result of human activities such as the burning of fossil fuels.
* An “unequivocal” warming trend of about 1.0 to 1.7°F occurred from 1906-2005. Warming occurred in both the Northern and Southern Hemispheres, and over the oceans (IPCC, 2007).
* The major greenhouse gases emitted by human activities remain in the atmosphere for periods ranging from decades to centuries. It is therefore virtually certain that atmospheric concentrations of greenhouse gases will continue to rise over the next few decades.
* Increasing greenhouse gas concentrations tend to warm the planet."
Virtual certainty means more than 99% agreement.
On the site you can also read about the effects climate change can have on our lives.
Hope this helped.

never. The greenhouse result is a stable component. devoid of the greenhouse result, the earth's temperature could be 60 ranges less warm and we could all freeze to death. it may be like residing back for the duration of the Ice Age. What motives worldwide warming is greenhouse gases like CFC's, CO2, and methane. worldwide warming is undesirable through fact it intensifies the greenhouse result.

This picture shows the most important causes. Man made greenhouse gases are 80-90% of it.

The effects are flooding along sea coasts and damage to agriculture due to changing patterns of temperature and precipitation. Later there will be economic problems in rich countries coping with the effects, and famine in poor countries. More details here:
