I feel like I've had this conversation a bazillion times, and have frequently thought about a creator, a God, etc. and what its nature would have to be to allow us to suffer so.

Really, an all powerful being that created cancer and pedophiles? I shudder to imagine. I can hypothetically accept the whole theory that 'God put all this here to test us' but really -- if you're all powerful, why do you have to make a bunch of tiny people to torture and test to see if they will believe in you no matter what reality suggests?

I just wish I could see more people at least questioning their faith and asking questions outside of the narrow (and falsely 'logical') boxes their pastors and churches put them in.

Everything is created with a balance... light and dark, high and low, good and evil. Cancer and pedophiles are just some of those evils. It's not hard for me to believe in these things. But I try my best not to be shallow minded... I believe in lots of things most Christians don't. Gay marriage, evolution, the freedom to choose abortion, etc. I can also understand you not believing the things I do, it's your choice. Please just try to remember that, as you said, it's "most" creationists who are shallow minded, not all of us. There are some of us you can have an intelligent conversation with. :)

incorrect. you're ignoring many different opportunities, the main glaring which would be that element itself basically exists right here, interior of this actual universe. And that it has no meaning "past" to this universe, so your claims approximately beginnings, creators, etc. are all meaningless. i'm no longer asserting it particularly is the case. yet i'm asserting that for the reason which you have disregarded the main glaring of countless selection motives you will be able to desire to take a seat down and do a sprint e book-learnin' in the previous making such an errors returned. once you ask a question you do not get to outline the only a threat solutions, the two. Are you a fisherman or a criminal expert?

I suppose my first response here was 'how do you define 'shallow minded'? Perhaps one of the definitions would be 'assuming someone is a particular thing before knowing all the facts'? I think it's great that you ask a question; I find it unnecessary and rude that you word it in such a way that you label "most" of us as shallow minded. If we're here to share information I'm all for it, but we should not be here at all if we just want to call people names.

I'm sorry, but please tell me where exactly God "created cancer and pedophiles"? I must have missed that verse.

And as for 'God put all this here to test us', that's a bunch of crap. The question that you link to doesn't open, but if a 'Christian' said that, they need to go back and read the Bible.

God created us for RELATIONSHIP with Him. Period. I agree that any being who would have created people just to torture them is disgusting and has nothing to do with the one true God.

I would refer you to the response to this question I gave regarding suffering, I don't want to put it in here: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=Ami.rt6nuf_ggQcBdAfe6Y_d7BR.?qid=20070814053732AAPj11o

Finally, as for questioning my faith, I have. And I do.....and God, who says "Come, let us REASON together" is perfectly willing to answer questions. You just gotta ask.

Well, I believe in God and I tend to think that these horrific things are part of some big plan that I don't see... but I fully admit that that might just be a human coping mechanism.

The question you linked to has been deleted, so I can't comment on that, but I agree that there are certainly some logical fallacies around here - especially in the "Creation" department.

I know it's hard, but try not to bash your head against the wall when you read that crap.

Cheers!

Man thrive's on challenges. Without Cancer, HIV, TB, Polio what would Research Scientists do. They're be no need for them.

God gave scientists a purpose in life. A job. Something to do.

If there was no disease or sickness there would be no need for Doctors.

If there was no war or violence and bad behavior there would be no need for Police and Soldiers and Government (you do know that was the ULTIMATE goal of Communism, UTOPIA).

If there was No God mixing up things, I guess we'd all be Janitors, cleaning up the apple cores we ate from the fruit trees we created with our will because we'd all be perfect Gods.

On the other hand, if the ATHEIST view is correct all life is a DICE THROW, it's a gamble. You step out your door, someone randomly shoots you. You get married, have children, the cosmic casino gives you cancer and you die.

Then we give way to that, what's the purpose in continuing!

Why have children, we are only forcing them into this gambling game!

And then, of course, you can blame man and big business for all the ills in the world.

Atheists wouldn't have Christians or a God to blame so they'd have to blame the real bad guys, Big Business, Politicans, Greedy people, Scientists who invent things with horrible side effects that cause global warming.

Man would have NO ONE ELSE to blame but man, himself, his own enemy.

No more God to blame it on.

No more Christians to point at and say "it's their fault."

The antisepetic world of the Atheist would have to change and they would face their own fellows pointing at them and saying: Why do you drive a car half a block to get a loaf of bread, don't you know it adds to global warming!

No matter how you face it, you can REMOVE God and Christians and Religion from the scene, but SIN never goes away.

SOMEONE is always pronouncing SIN on someone else.

It's a SIN to own an animal coat.

It's a SIN to eat animal flesh.

It's a SIN to smoke

It's a SIN to drive a car

It's a SIN to eat a candy bar.

You're never going to get away from Mommy and Daddy who tell you their concept of right and wrong.

You just won't have GOD and RELIGION to blame it all on!

Out there, somewhere right now are 500,000 ATHEISTS who DON'T LIKE everything YOU DO, especially if it affects them or the world. And they won't hesitate to point out your flaws!

Imagine a world without GOD and RELIGION, but everything else remains the same.

Who do we blame murder, rape, death, war, starvation, global warming on then!

Because there is Satan who says, I have considered your servant (so and so) etc... and for other reasons as well.

It's not shallow minded but faithful in heart.

No one knows the inner most person's heart and why God does exactly what he does, there are many different reasons.
That person who is being afflicted probably knows and if they don't, they will eventually, and most times the better for it.

In the bible it speaks of affliction and suffering, holding steadfast in prayer all the way through it. It is necessary because we are imperfect and we live in an imperfect world run by imperfect people and people being tempted, not passing tests but repeating the same ones again and again.

Death is but a short while .... the kingdom of heaven is forever... in eternity no more suffering and no more tears.

God didn't create cancer or pedophiles. God's creation was very good until mankind defiled it with sin. Now we live in a fallen world where we suffer the ongoing consequences of sinful behavior.

We are all living under God's curse and judgment. That may not seem "fair" but it's just like it isn't fair if a child is born into a family where the parents are crack addicts either. Each of us bears the penalty of those who came before us.

God's love is demonstrated by his making a way for us to escape this fallen world after we have served our time here and to enjoy the new creation that He promises to all who will trust in the sacrifice that God provided as payment for our sin debt. In the mean time He calls on all people to repent of their lawless deeds and to trust in Jesus for their salvation and to love one another as they love them self, doing good deeds that He has prepared in advance for us to do.

It isn't God's fault if people won't listen to Him. Sure, He is almighty but He does things the way that He wants to do them as his plan unfolds and not the way we might want Him to do them.

2 Peter 3:8 But in this let it not escape your notice, beloved, that one day with the Lord is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. 9 The Lord does not delay concerning His promise, as some reckon slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

10 But the day of the Lord shall come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens shall pass away with a rushing noise, and the elements, burning with heat, shall be dissolved, both the earth and the works that are in it shall be burned up. 11 Therefore, seeing that all these things shall be dissolved, what sort of people ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness, 12 looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens, being set of fire, shall be dissolved, and the elements, burning with heat, shall melt? 13 But according to His promise, we look for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells.

God put all this here to test us,,
This is wat we r taught,,,and it is wat I believe in.
God has send disease to earth,,,but he is also the the most kind and merciful.
He gives us so much out of his bounty,,count yr blessings and u will see how great they r.We donot obey him yet he gives u so much.
Imagine if u created a creation and it acted like ppl r now,,u would get so angry,,yet God gives us so much, without even asking.
And also this life is temperary,,we should live our lives in such a way that our eternal life is good ie in Heaven.

God says in the Quran:

And, behold, with every hardship comes ease. Verily, with every hardship
comes ease! Hence, when thou art freed [from distress], remain steadfast, and to thy Lord turn (all) thy attention.
Holy Quran, Chapter 94, Verses 5-8

"Be conscious of the day when you will all be brought back to God; when every soul will be repaid in full for what it has earned, and none will be wronged."
The Holy Quran, 2:281

"Man is a creature of haste. (But in time) I will make obvious to you (the truth of) My messages. Therefore, you need not be impatient."

Because they are born that way.

One cannot help being shallow-minded if one does not have the capacity for greater things.

You cannot hold a lake in a teaspoon.... and nor can you increase the capacity of the teaspoon without breaking it completely.

Bailey - I can understand your disbelief in a supernatural creator, but aside from that, what did the YA questioner say that is unsupported by climatologists or mathematicians?
Yes, people who follow their pastors or churches without thinking or questioning are shallow.
