I have airline reservations with American for a late departure. If I wanted to change to an earlier flight on the same day without going standby, does American charge a fee? Are there only a selected number of seats on each flight to allow this change?

This will depend on the conditions of the fare you bought. With full fare, you can change at any time. With a deeply discounted fare you will have restrictions.

American allows same-day changes to itineraries within 12 hours of the scheduled departure for a $25 fee, given available space on the earlier (or later) itinerary. A phone call to AA will yield flights where this is available, because they only will make it available on flights where there is sufficient space.

they are right--^

Dicounted fares usually charge some HUGE penalty.
Tried to get a later (sameday) flight and they wanted to charge $100 fee and then you had to pay full fare. The original ticket was only $110.

the airlines can not deny passage to overweight people that would be discrimination what they can do is charge them for 2 seats, a very hurtful and embarrassing thing to happen to someone.
