God doesn't have a mother. He is eternal and the creator of all things. Claiming that Mary is God's mother would mean that God didn't exist until He was born of Mary. Mary was God's chosen vessel from whom his eternal Son entered this world wrapped up in flesh. Mary was a fine woman and all generations will count her blessed for being chosen by God for the high honor of giving birth to Jesus. But she knew that she needed a Savior and while she played a unique role in God's plan of redemption she doesn't hold a higher standing in God's eyes than any of his other children.
Luke 1:46 And Mary said: "My soul magnifies the Lord, 47 and my spirit has rejoiced in God my Savior.
Luke 11:27 And it happened, while He spoke these things, that a certain woman from the crowd raised her voice and said to Him, "Blessed is the womb which bore You, and the breasts which nursed You!" 28 But He said, "More than that, blessed are those who hear the word of God and keep it!"

The core Christian belief that is declared when we acknowledge Mary as the mother of God is the divinity of her Son. To deny that Mary is the mother of god is to deny the central belief of Christianity - that her Son is God. And therefore it denies our salvation, since the death of a mere man could not possibly win salvation for all of humanity. It is logically inconsistent to say that Jesus is God, and Mary is His mother, yet Mary is not the mother of God.
