There are some ISPs that offer faster access over dialup. They do it by trying to guess what you'll download next once you're done looking at the current page, and then they download that before you click on the link to get it. If they guess right, they look pretty good. But if you click on something else, they're no faster than what you have now. I think PeoplePC and NetZero do this, but I could be mistaken. I don't pay much attention to their ads.

Another option is to get a satellite connection. You buy a dish that serves as your internet connection. Some systems allow you to upload using the dish - others require you to use a dialup connection to get out. That may make sense, since most people download lots of stuff, but don't upload much. Talk to a dish dealer in your area for details.

There are several ways to apparently 'speed up' your internet connection on dial-up. I have tried various registry setting programs that change 'MTU' (sp) and various other settings, NONE of them worked worth a damn. ISP's like Netzero offer a 'higher speed service', all that does is cache various sites you visit, and will not speed up pictures, downloads, etc. It's all smoke and mirrors, junk!! Get DSL or cable or satellite. Dial up is the dinosaur of the Internet, and it's use is dropping dramatically, year after year. It is worth the money to upgrade, at least to DSL. (Also it frees up your phone line!!)
