No it's not fair, so refuse. Or start making it so badly they'll stop asking- worked for my sister with the washing up! Alternatively, spit in it and then watch with glee as they slurp away on your best greenie!!! Making tea may well then become your favourite activity!

You could refuse, but if you don't want to make a fuss try making lousy tea for a week or two - if anyone complains then you could bring up the idea of a rota - or everyone making their own. You should in all fairness make your boss a tea simply because he/she is paid more than you and that unfortunately makes his/her time more cost-effective to the company. Finally, you could negotiate with your boss by saying you seem to be spending too long doing jobs (making tea) which take you away from what you are being paid to do - and say it is more economical therefore to install a tea-machine. Good luck

Hi...

Im in the same position..And I dont even drink bloody tea!!

Whe I started off, I was shown the tea making facilities.. And to start with, to keep on the good side did it.

I dont now...I made it clear, I was as qualified, and in most cases more so and therefore would not be subjected to the sexist role they thought I belonged in.

Of course it's not fair. Just dont make a big deal out of it. Just suggest a rota, and make your point, that you are not there to make the tea, any more so than any of the other employee's and that you are starting to feel taken advantage of.

Either make your own tea/coffee and let them do there own...If anyone comments, just say 'no one has ever made you tea and you dont want to fall into the role of tea lady' ..Or just dont drink it.. Which is what I choose..

I dont run around after my boyfriend and I love him, I certainly wont do it for a load of stuffy old men I dont even like!!

NO, you should not have to make the tea all the time, unless it is part of your job description. Since you are doing extra work that benefiits a number of employees, you should ask for extra pay to compensate for the extra work. Pitch it as a valuable skill (since no one else seems to know how to do it) and mention the hazard involved (you could get burned!).
Unique skills and hazard are always brought up in discussions of wage disparity in the Gender and Women's Studies section. Including these points in your pitch for a raise will make a strong case against your sexist coworkers.

If you don't get paid more, then you will be making tea only for yourself.

Are you English or something. People make coffee at the office here, but by God, never tea. :-/

And the working women would certainly not stand for that. If men called them a coffee girl, they'd start burning there bras and marching. Its like they're all just waiting for that sexist comment to go in full-out fembot mode.

No this is not fair. The men who i work with tried this with us girls here in the office. They soon got the picture though when we only made for the girls and left them out lol. They now take their turn, still not as often as us girls but its a start.

Stop making them drinks, they will soon get the picture and if they dont then at least u only have to make 1 cuppa for yourself.

I am sure everyone appreciates what you do. Just wondering did you nominate yourself and did they nominate you? I bet you will be missed if you weren't there for a day!
