There's only really two versions. The original one and a slimmer one out soon.
The slimmer one has some neat extra features such as a video out, so you can play it through your telly.
The version #s you hear about are the firmware updates that Sony makes available to download (either over the net or along with new games) to increase the features, etc, and any PSP can make use of them.

You should really wait until september, when the newer PSP comes out. My old PSP broke, but I am waiting until the new ones come out, and I am going to send my old one back, and see if I can get a discount on a new one. The new ones are thinner, and lighter, and you can play on your TV with the video output. I don't really recommend playing the games on your tv, but it is great if you have a movie on you PSP, you can watch it on tvs at hotels and stuff.

the versions I think you are talking about the updates. Every few months or so, Playstation puts out a new update for the PSP, PS3 and other platforms, that enables the platform to do new things. They throw in stuff to make the platforms support new music files, new movie files, and increase security. installing the updates is relatively easy and it helps out the system. Also some games that you buy will need the system to be updated to play them, so they upgrade the system to the newest version upon gameplay.

Now in market u have only one PSP model..

New PSP will be 33% lighter and 19% thinner than the original PSP system. The redesign now also features a TV Output, supports charging via USB, and the on-board RAM has been doubled from 32MB to 64MB. The PSP's speakers have been moved from the bottom of the unit to the face to combat the poor volume and audio quality of the old model.-----To be released in Sep 2007

Present Model--

PSP Value pack costing INR 11,990/- and comes with

*
Memory Stick Duo (32 MB)
*
Headphone with remote control
*
Soft case and cloth
*
UMD In-pack Sampler

Battery and adapter

2. PSP base pack costing 9,990/- contains battery pack and adapter.
