You mean slurping or sipping???? YES it is annoying. Now, add to a huge sigh when the drink is down and you have the picture. A gulp is not unheard of. This also can occur in a cold beverage drink. Or how about someone that drinks something and immediately goes into a coughing spree at the end of the drink? I am talking about every time and it is not a physical condition. - Sigh ------ But we have to endure the people we live with, don't we? A friend, we can get rid of, but a family member - well I guess not.

The noises made while drinking something hot is indeed annoying. The worst for me is when people take a great big bite of a sandwich and smack their lips trying to get the whole mouthful in at one time. Frequently I see people with dressing dripping down their chins and hands, I'd like to get a mirror and ask if they want to see what we have to look at. Some people act as though it's their last meal. We know, pretty well by looking at them, that's it's not the last by any stretch of the imagination.

Yes I do. It is most annoying when people do this. It does not only happen with warm or hot drinks but with cold ones too! And, with kinds of food also. I had a friend who used to slurp his hot tea, whilst drinking it . When asked why he did this, his reply was "otherwise you cannot get the proper taste of the tea". Actually I think the fact stems from the parents itself who dont correct their children with proper eating and drinking habits, and correct behaviourial patterns and are either /or totally ignorant or indifferent to such things as unwarrented noises and odd sounds that emanate from the mouth during the consumption of food and drink .Not only should these be observed in the company of others, but with friends and relations too! And, that they, should at all times, respect others sensitivity and feelings and be aware of what society expects of them. This comes with correct grooming.

No. I'm more annoyed when people talk on the phone (pay, cell) in a public place in a loud, hostile manner and voice to the other end and they think they are at home beating and abusing that person and forgetting where they are. That really affects me because others and myself are being assaulted with profanity and hostility and being put in an arkward and potentially dangerous situation. Now thats something to be annoyed about. Please!?!?!!!

Aaaaah, I think you mean those "tea-slurping noises" LOL! They're a great laugh. I always try to out-do my friends and family!

ANd I can confirm that the above answer about slurping being acceptable and normal in Japan (admittedly for hot noodles) is correct too!

It's a crazy slurping world...

Yes. I hate that slurping noise. What I hate even more tho is the sound of someone banging their spoon when they are stirring in cream and sugar. I know people that bang excessively. They also bang their spoon when they noisily eat cereal with milk. Slurp, chew, bang. Slurp, chew, bang. Has kind of a rhythm to it -- Most annoying to be sure.

Yes it is incredibly annoying but the worse thing ever is people eating banana's. I don't know anyone who can eat a banana without it making that little slurpy sucky sound it really makes me feel ill. I think banana's should come with a little sound proof helmet to wear while you eat them!!

Yes, I do hate it when I hear "Ouch! HOT!" If only people could be more dignified.

They should simply put down the cup of annoying liquid and dab the corners of their mouth gently.

Best to avoid the company of such uncouth people. Trouble comes if this behaviour occurs in a restaurant or hotel where it would be inconvenient to leave or change table.
