A soft boiled egg with dippy "soldiers" for my mum on her birthday breakfast when I was about 5.
The toast was burnt, the eggs were hard boiled.
A complete disaster.
Totally inedible, but the thought was there I suppose.
Then I set about making a cake.
You have never seen such a singed lump of dear knows what.

Fortunately, some 40+ years later, I have the hang of it all.

Oh my goodness. That was such a long time ago. I was making little biscuits to send to my brother who was in basic training in the army. Was it edible, Yes. but if you ask me if it was good, NO. They came out a little on the hard side. My brother never got them but I choked them down. I hate to waste stuff. You would think such an experience would have discouraged me into any more forays into the kitchen but in the end I did become an excellent cook.

I went a little crazy and made a roast lamb dinner when I was 11/12, my dad had died and mum was working 8-6 shifts, so I wanted to take care of my brothers and have her a nice dinner waiting when she got home.... But I had always helped in the kitchen so had my common sense about me very early on....

It was suprisingly edible!!

Lol.. I know it sounds a tad far fetched, but its true!

A peanut butter cake with my Easy Bake Oven. I didn't feel like I needed to use one their pre-made cake mix packets so I made the cake mix from scratch. Non edible is an understatement. I mashed up the peanuts and didn't take the shells off first! My dad was kind enough to eat it anyway. Poor guy.

I believe it was either cereal or oatmeal. Either way I think it came out just fine. Since then I've become a master of recipes that come on a box with no more than five phases to the cooking process.

a roast chicken dinner. Mum was in hospital and I had to cook for the others, being the eldest. I had helped mum and watched her so I knew what to do. Yes it was edible. Not quite as good of course, but ok.

After my Mum died, I tried to take over the cooking to help my Dad out, I did sausage beans and chips, everything but the beans was burnt but my dad and brother still ate it, I'll never forget it as my Dad was crying at the time, back then I thought it was because the food was so bad.
