I'm still figuring it out, but honesty and integrity come pretty high up the list!

Empathy.

Every other good thing that I want for them stems from a true ability to empathize with others.

Don't forget Respect and of coarse for little girls being courteous. Kindness.....the list goes on and there is no quality more important than another they are all just as important. As parents we try to teach them how they should act or behave but they are the ones that have to do it we can only hope that our teaching have a good outcome. The biggest motto in my house with a three year old is you don't want someone to yell at you or say mean things to you than you shouldn't say them yourself and you treat other people how you want them to treat you. It sort of back fires when a child comes in and destoys stuff and is mean. She asks why is that kid mean to his mommy or why is that kid mean to me and I tell her that some people just aren't as good as you and not to worry about what other people do. You just make sure you stay being a good girl. So far so good...I haven't gotten any bitting or hitting calls yet from school. One kid did hit her and she told the teeacher and me and I told her that you did the right thing to turn around and find your teacher. We don't need to fight....But when she is older I will take a self defense class with her to teach her the right time to fight back and how......

I try to teach my son respect. I have him hold doors for people, play please and thank you etc. I feel that if I can teach him respect all the other things (honesty etc) will fall into place with it.

I agree, honesty is key. I'd also say respect, acceptance, perserverance, responsibility, charity, and patience are also things I try to instill.

One thing I feel is also very important is the old "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you"..which as you know means to treat others the way you want to be treated.

Faith.
I know i'll get laughed at here for it, but i truly don't care... Faith is what will help us get thru' life unscathed.

Truly believe Faith is the best gift parents can gift their child with. A simple child-like faith taught best thru' example.
Faith in God, Faith in family & Faith in oneself.
In that order!
xx
